A little friday afternoon classic rock from the Stones that I love. I find this song to be absolutely original and just so very Rolling Stones.

You need it on vinyl being played on a really powerful home stereo from about 1982 and volume set to about 8 to truly appreciate the brilliance of this song.

Ron Wood replacing Mick Taylor was the end of an era, Black and Blue and Some Girls were good but they started to decline after that.

Brian Jones was almost as good as Taylor. Although Charlie Watts was brilliant.

That's interesting. I hope they put out a good album.

For what it's worth, pretty much every band in my list, in fact, all of them, are well past their prime when it comes to putting out respectable new albums.

U2's last 2 albums sucked LARGE, and I'm a huge U2 fan.

Roger Waters, I love Floyd and Rogers in particular. Absolutely incredible musician and I will see him play live in concert every time I can, but his last album a couple of years ago wasn't that great. (To put it politely.) But God bless him, he's still going strong and puts on THEE best live show ever of any band I've ever seen.

The Stones, I don't think they've done anything of really great since "Some Girls" in 1978. (But they have put out a lot of work over the years I will admit with some flashes of brilliance along the way.)

But all of them (if they are still alive) can still put on fucking amazing live shows with piles of content to draw from. But new content? Not so much. Creativity in rock and roll (and many things) is a young man's game. As you get older, you gain experience, but you lose that "devil may care" attitude that brings with it the ability to take risks. Besides, it's hard to be pissed off at the man when you have shit loads of money in the bank. (You basically have become "the man".)
Very well said, top marks. ^^^

While Townshend is a prolific writer and musician, I'm not expecting his next album to blow me away. What does amaze me though, is how Townshend wrote and recorded his demos. He played guitar, bass, drums, piano/keyboards/synthesizer, vocals and mixed everything himself. Many of the songs he wrote were basically complete works. All his band-mates had to do was add their magic to it. He released several albums of such demos named Scoop, Another Scoop and Scoop 3.

This is the Won't Get Fooled Again demo. Pretty amazing if you ask me!

You will not suck me into this debate!!!
LMAO
Agreed, there is simply too much mind soothing, mind blowing ear candy coming from all directions for to make a call that I do not want to make. I just want to enjoy over and over again so much by so many.

And so is The Who! Townshend guitar playing is still as good as ever, although he's changed his style a bit after Entwistle died. Roger's voice is better than it was 20 years ago and with Ringo's son Zak Starkey on drums and Pino Palladino on bass, they're still a fantastic live band.
Pino Palladino on bass : he left the band

Roger's voice is better than it was 20 years ago : nope , he had trouble singing Love, Reign o'er Me last time

But Im still going in June

The Stones suck ass - can one make a more ignorant comment I wonder.

Rolling Stones top 10 singles (US) - 22
Van Halen top 10 singles (US) - 3

Van Halen has sold 75M albums worldwide. The Stones have sold 240M albums worldwide.
Number of albums sold is not the only measure of greatness. Some of those talentless hacks of today (who are ONLY the face and voice the record company factories push) have sold MILLIONS...but can sing only somewhat better than how we sing in the shower.

There's a reason why NO BAND wanted to be on the same stage as VH back in the day. No band wanted to play 'after' their set. They'd play before them (maybe), but NO ONE wanted to play after them.
As for Zep...DON'T GIVE A SHIT WHAT ANYONE SAYS!!! There's a good reason why Soooooooooooo many bands were influenced by them. Even that terrible rip-off, Greta Van Fleet, (who claim to even barely know Zep). These 2 bands that you speak so lowly about, have, between the two of the, been responsible for MILLIONS of ppl picking up an instrument. This is true of almost every rock band who've had existed since they hit the scene respectively.

Haven't read through this, but have The Police, Rush, Triumph, Webster, been mentioned?
You're right, whoever said it...I wouldn't consider Crimson as a rock band, now would I consider Zappa. These 2 outfits where not about writing quick 3 to 5 minute hit singles. These outfits were full of musicians who appreciated the art of experimentation. Not what the record companies want. LMAO

K, I'm done!
I didn't want to get caught up in this...
Music is my life! It's the ONLY thing that I have lost love for (save for my kids)

Maiden? Priest? Black Crows? U2? (been re-listening to these guys A LOT this week again. Man! I was a TOTAL Hard Rock guy when someone introduced me to them when they came out. I was dead set against liking any band who didn't have 10 min BLISTERING guitar solos! LOL. I've been HOOKED since their 1st note!)

Some of these bands I've mentioned may not have been huge commercial success, but commercial success don't mean shit to me...

O

OnTheWayOut

Deep Purple was always my fave but listened and loved almost all the bands mentioned ..... even King Crimson! lol

One band that never gets mentioned is Uriah Heep .... these guys made some great noise!

I stand corrected, thank you. Didn't realize Pino had left the band.

I'll be there too!

Not a band, and I don't think he was mentioned, but Neil Young has to be included in any discussion of greatest in rock. Amazing songs in a wide variety of styles/genres, guitar, his influence over younger artists, and he still has relevance after over 50 years.
