On a practical level I agree with Captain Kirk. But we (almost always lefties) go around pounding our chest shouting "we are morally superior" and enact laws that bear no relationship to reality.
Progressives are indeed better than Conservatives, though, and this thread is the perfect example of that. Progressives are morally superior. No one on the Left will support Trudeau if he is found to be guilty of this offence. Liberals simply want to know the facts of what happened so that we can decide whether or not JT needs to be removed. You will never see anything comparable to this on the Right.

I like JT because I support his values, policies, and programs. I hope he is not guilty but if he is then he needs to go. Not a big deal; JT is expendable. It’s the ideas that he supports that Progressives value- not the man himself. JT can be easily replaced.

The Right does not have this option. trump IS the object of their cultish devotion. Without trump the whole house of cards comes crashing down. If HE fails they FAIL. His supporters cannot allow that to happen so they have no choice but to support him obediently and unquestioningly. They minimize and excuse his GLARING flaws and failings because they have to.

That is why the Right create these Ubermensch, Nazi-inspired images of trump. HE is their leader and his followers are subservient. He is their “Emperor God.” He cannot be replaced.

Massive 'God Emperor Trump' Float Rolls Through Parade in Italy

A gigantic float depicting President Trump as a "God Emperor" rolled through the streets during a parade in Italy over the weekend.

The float was part of the annual Viareggio Carnevale parade, which began in 1873, according to the event's website.

The float, which was titled "The Master-Drone" and created by Fabrizio Galli, was meant to emulate the "dominant character" of the war game "Warhammer 40,000."

The event's website states that Trump represents "the dominant male par-excellence."

Trump's parade-float head featured a golden leaf crown, his torso was dressed in what appeared to be golden armor and his left hand featured five long, talon-like claws.

The massive display even featured a sword with blue Twitter birds flying around it. According to Newsweek, the words "Dazi Vostri" were written on the sword, which translates to "your duties."

I think many on the left are decent people but I also think they are naive and many of their ideas don't work in the real world. Here are just a couple of examples (there are many more).

1) I once asked one of Andrea Horwath's volunteer how the NDP would fund all their promises. The answer was: "We'll just raise taxes on the rich." She must think 70% of Ontarians are "rich". It takes an income of around $200,000 to live in Toronto.

2) Democrat President Lyndon Johnson implemented the "War on Poverty". It was an unmitigated disaster. There are actually more poor people now than prior to the "War on Poverty".

I’m not suggesting Progressives are always right about everything...they aren’t.

However, their choices and decisions (rightly or wrongly) are guided by a principled set of values...not unquestioning devotion to an authoritarian leader. This allows Progressives more flexibility to admit mistakes, change course, and accept responsibility for bad decisions.

trump was completely perplexed by Al Franken’s decision to step down as a Senator. He literally could not comprehend it nor could his followers.

Bill Wilson said his daughter is not one to be pushed around.

The Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs issued a statement which basically said they are not pleased with Trudeau.

The tide is rising.

I saw that complaint from the BC Indian Chiefs...Sounds like a load to me.

They are accusing the PM’s office of being racist and sexist because unnamed sources described JWR as being:
difficult to get along with, known to berate fellow cabinet ministers openly at the table, and who others felt they had trouble trusting

The BC Chiefs complained that:
They perpetuate colonial-era, sexist stereotypes that Indigenous women cannot be powerful, forthright and steadfast in positions of power, but rather confrontational, meddling and egotistic," said the news release from the group.

FML...She wouldn’t have even gotten the damned job were it not for her gender and Native ancestry (JT makes no secret of his support for affirmative action in his cabinet choices)...the chiefs can’t turn around and claim she’s being persecuted for her gender and ancestry when things turn sour.

I'm saying it is not worth bankrupting SNC Lavalin over.

Or was I not clear enough?

SNC contributes BILLIONS of dollars to the Canadian economy. Should we destroy them and replace those jobs with jobs working in warehouse for Amazon? All those juicy government nicities that everyone likes - hospitals, schools, roads, health care, security, welfare safety all require MONEY and that money doesn't come from government workers. It comes from guys in the private sector who get out there and hustle and take risks and generate real wealth for the economy as a whole. Guys who build things and add value. We support more than half the country that essentially lives on our hard work.

So unless you have a solid plan on how to deal with the very real economic fallout of destroying a company like SNC over chicken shit, I suggest that you get your principled head around letting it go. I don't remember who exactly said it, but perhaps a little "creative incompetence" would go a long way on this one.
Too big to charge. Let's make a new law for them.

Trudeau really threw Jodie Wilson-Raybould under the bas at his news conference tonight. "She had a responsibility....". None of it is his fault, he is just surprised and disappointed.

What a self righteous asshole. I hope he is forced to resign or is voted out ain the coming election.

Its 8 PM and he still hasn't released the AG and allowed her to speak...They should give her immunity if she's got the dough on him

But she wasn't sentenced..was she
I believe she is awaiting sentencing. The Crown is apparently asking for 8 years but we’ll see.

I still think she’s crazy af but a psychiatrist found her fit to stand trial.

Dughmosh, who is self-represented, underwent a court-ordered psychological assessment in 2017 after her initial visits with a psychiatrist in jail prompted concerns that she had a psychotic disorder. She was ultimately found fit to stand trial and not diagnosed with any major mental disorder.

According to initial reports, Dughmosh said God gave her visions in her dreams of America being destroyed, that the jail staff was putting “sorcery” in her food to prevent her from worshipping God and that the Canadian government had put surveillance devices in her home.

She also repeatedly refused to go to court, resulting in her being pepper-sprayed twice and engaging in hunger strikes.

According to the “substantive summary of events” summarizing the Crown’s evidence, Dughmosh’s estranged husband Anas Hanafy told the RCMP Dughmosh had barely left the apartment in the three months prior to the attack and that she had wanted to leave Canada. She believed the RCMP was surveilling her and started covering electrical outlets and other places in the house with tape and tinfoil. Hanafy said he even bought her a bug detector to try and prove there was nothing there.

This here post, is the most hogwash I've read here on terb. If what Trudeau is alleged to do, happened in the united states, there would be a special council investigation, a congress investigation an FBI investigation and the whole media conglomerate would back that! They'd be screaming a constitutional crisis!

And by the way, Trump and all Trump supporters were the ones who DEMANDED Franken step down! Come back to reality bro!

You've won the delusion award. Congratulations.

The Liberal have just limited the scope of the investigation. Now why would they do that?
