Friend calls me up and says his friend wants to sell her car cheap.Would I like to buy it. I don't really want or need it but find it hard to turn down a cheap car. He tells me she just lost her job and can't afford to insure it, let alone drive it. Wants to get it out of the underground parking lot because the manager doesn't want it sitting there without insurance.
He calls me back next day and says he thinks he might be able to get her a better offer, than the one we discussed. I said. Go for it. Don't let me stand in her way. I don't really need it.
Calls me back next day and says that deal is off. Why don't I come and see it? I say. Why doesn't she just sell it on Craigslist? He says, you don't understand. She isn't going to do that. A lot of people just aren't going to bother doing that.
So I look at the car and without a mechanic checking it out, suggest a price, seeing as she wants to get rid of it. He says, considering her circumstances, no job, no car, it would be nice if I offered her more, just to help her out. I agreed.
We make an arrangement to do the sale and paperwork when she gets home. He calls me and says she will be home shortly after work...huh?
She comes home. from work. and says, I will follow you guys up to the insurance office in my car...I think wtf?
So while he is driving me up to the office, I say, "I thought you said she lost her job" he says, oh, that was her second job. she still has her first job.
I say, I thought you said she was so broke she had to sell her car.Now she is following us in a new car. WTF? he says. So. she only has about $4.00 in her bank account.
I say. That is my problem because?....
So I went through with the deal, because it would have been too awkward. I have this feelling stuck in my craw, that I got scammed. He senses that I guess, because he phoned back and said he was just trying to be a nice guy and help us both out.
Did I get scammed?
