As I'm sure Oagre and other learned friends would agree. A young couple in their early 20's with no significant assets, may well feel with justification, that there is little reason for one.

On the other hand a couple perhaps only a few years older who are marrying for a second time, perhaps with children from their previous marriage, and perhaps with significant assets, absolutely should have one -- far better to have a prenuptial agreement than be concerned about the co-mingling of premarital assets and children potentially being denied an inheritance.
This is not the case. The young man needs one the most. He is going to spend the next twenty years busting his ass and it is all going to go to her in the divorce.

It's difficult because men in the modern era have been raised on romance movies that equate "love" with marriage. But marriage is first and foremost a business proposition - the union of two people who can pool their resources and be better off together than apart. Men think with their dicks and in doing so fall head over heels easily from lust. Women are much more likely to understand the 'business' nature of marriage since sex is not a top priority for them though they're used to contracting sex (or the potential for it) in exchange for goods/services/status practically all their lives.
Well said and on target.

I can't stand that phrase " happy wife, happy life".
Am I supposed to suffer and be miserable just to keep her happy? Fuck that
. my happiness comes first. I think about cutting and running all the time. Just feel bad for the kid.
"Happy wife, happy life". You need to realize that is not a mission statement. It is a warning.

If a guy has a lot to lose then why in the fuck would he ever get married?
I think we all know that women are wonderful and magnificent creatures, The love and respect of a great women can make life worth living, and everyday a paradise. Take that same women, but now you have her hatred and contempt, oh and your also married to her. So now your getting a divorce, and this women will move heaven and earth to destroy you. She will lie, cheat, steal, fuck anything to destroy your life. Her greatest wish is to cut your cock and balls off , she used to be your wife, now she's a zombie. A women can't deal with a man who can no longer stand to be with them, they feel abandoned . The horror stories about men and divorce are out there and there all true. So if your married and not a fan of homicide or suicide, Try to keep her happy. happy wife happy life gentleman.

OP:

-Unless he is going to be a househusband, a man should always have a prenup.
-It doesn't matter how many assets you have, it matters how many assets you hope to have.
-There is never a downside to insisting on a prenup. When she refuses, write her a cheque for everything you have at that point and see how it feels.
Can a pre-nup really cover the increase in net worth during a marriage?

The potential of it always gets me. Need to start getting my sex as a pre-payment rather than left high and dry and feeling used. There's a commercial where the guy is helping a woman move a sofa on his own just as her boyfriend comes into the scene lamenting he's not able to help. He gets a phone call at that moment from his friends telling him good luck with that girl.

As far as I've been told a pre nup will not cover what your increase of net worth will be in the duration of the marriage.

Just saw that commercial for the first time the other day it's a Casino Niagara Fallsview commercial. I couldn't help myself but laugh at the idiot who thought he had a shot at the girl while she had a BF. I would have left that couch right there let the boyfriend stay and help with the move

Your making a generalization on all men. I think the majority of men are as you describe, but society and the way men approach marriage or love has changed drastically in the last 10-15 years.
If you think of marriage as a business proposition well your doomed and you will fail, and your definition of marriage is warped.
I don't know the type of women you know but the ones I know (single, and married) all love sex and sex is an important part of marriage. The issue with marriage is that both men and women tend to get comfortable and forget to put effort into it and that's where things go wrong on both ends.
Remember if your not showing affection, love or satisfying your women's sexual needs she will eventually look for those some place else and she will find it. To all of you who are married or in a relationship, pop that Viagra tonight and ride that pony.:high5:

that's right...so if you win a lottery the day after you are splitting that money!!!
There are all sorts of exceptions.

Another is you remain married for thirty years have several children etc. . . A Pre-Nuptial Agreement won't help you at that point.

They are quite useful for particular situations, however, they are not a panacea.

Wasn't there a woman in the news recently who won the lottery but waited until she divorced her husband to claim the prize? Only to be taken to court by him for his half since they were married when she had won and had kept it a secret.

Found the article here it is.

https://www.factswt.com/a-woman-won...-end-lost-all-of-her-lottery-money-to-her-ex/

She won the lottery 11 days later filed for divorce after 25 years of marriage. The prize was only 1.3M
The judge gave the whole lottery prize to the husband since she was attempting to fraud of his share in the divorce and did not disclose it.

You know what they say.

Of course it can. That's the main reason for it. That's what mine does. That's what Trump's current one does and past ones did.

Husbands probably don't know. They're left high and dry at home while the wife is out bopping around

If you think of marriage as a business proposition well your doomed and you will fail, and your definition of marriage is warped.
Getting into a marriage without proper consideration of finances is a recipe for disaster. Money problems, or more specifically, a husband's unemployment, is the catalyst for many divorces.

It shouldn't be the only consideration, but one of the more important ones. Attraction is important, with the understanding that everyone gets old and that the initial years of physical excitement inevitably wanes - so it's not the glue that keeps a marriage together. Personality/compatibility is also crucial.

It's like stacking one key component atop the other. Attraction comes first because it's the most salient feature but then you determine whether that person is a good fit based on finances and personality.

I think this is ideal and increases the odds of a successful marriage.

Getting married is simple and easy - kids without a clue do it every day - but getting married to the right person is not as easy.
