GreenWood Raceway down at the beaches, my old man would take me with him when I was a lad, loved seeing the horses in general.

"The field is now in motion, and there they go!"
and "here they are"..Jack Stephens was the racecaller who used those lines................o and of course we went across the street to drink beer at the Old Orchard Park Tavern

ah yes the Warwick....with the hookers sitting at the back row against the wall.......somewhere in the mid 70,s me and a couple of buds spent New Years Eve there.....rang in the new year drinking champagne out of cone shaped paper cups....so much class....lol......hauled a hooker out of there one night and ended up in Larry,s Hideaway...another classy joint ..lol..
That place was great. Like Paul Simon's The Boxer." I do declare. There were times when I was so lonesome I took some comfort there"

TV repairmen and TV repair shops.

Ever had your TV hauled away for a few days to get fixed?

Also, those trucks that would deliver Mio and Brio pop by the case in Italian neighbourhoods.

Same neighbourhoods, the piles of manure that used to get delivered in the spring so they could fertilize their vegetable garden in the backyard.

And the piles of wood left over from the crates that were delivered in the fall full of grapes so they could make wine.

Smells that are long gone.

Anyone remember the Lancaster bomber and the tank on the lake shore? I was obsessed with that tank when I was an 8 year old wannabe warmonger kid. I used to try and figure out ways of getting inside it and starting it up, but it was welded shut.

Many fond memories on a Sunday afternoon playing around there.
The bomber is in long-term storage somewhere in Toronto.

Anybody tobogganed down the Riverdale park hill ( both sides)?
There use to be a sizable sort-of-hill at Winchester Public school circa 1973~ish that was just as fun. That's gone now probably due to liability issues.

In a previous life remember these commercials..."there are two ways to work on a construction site....the right way...and the WRONG way..." then the guy getting his hand crushed in the concrete tubing, or by the crane, or the hammer falling on the guys head....

Smoking. (Maybe it wasn't such a good idea....).....

Being able to smoke inside. In movie theatres. At work. STRIP JOINTS and bars.......

Then the coffee shops built those smoker's rooms.

Also, cigarette machines.

When condoms were JUST a form of birth control. Not a way to stay alive.

I know that's not Retro Toronto but what the hell. I miss that, too.
