You keep the gun loaded inside the safe, and it takes mere seconds if you own a fingerprint scanning safe.
With a bit of practice you should be able to have that gun in your hand and ready to fire within 5 seconds:

http://www.survivopedia.com/keeping-guns-ready/

All I know is if I lived in the US I'd want a gun next to my bed. In Canada I dont feel we need it as much.
I do own a hunting rifle, but I keep it nicely locked up in a separate room. Never had any problems
Actually it is lawful to have a hand gun with the bullets in a magazine in your safe . Magazine can't be in your gun but it can be right beside your gun . Safes these days can have a 6 digit code to open them up . Just keep a flashlight on the safe incase it's dark and you can't see the numbers to punch in the code .

Couple of seconds and your safe is open

So you just have to make sure that the burglar breaks in very close to the safe. No problem there. Can't see how that can fail.

And if the burglar is right there with you as laid out in your scenario, 5 seconds (not that that is realistic in the 1st place) is tonnes of time for him to get the draw on you. If you don't already have it in your hand when he comes in, you are at his mercy.

Ridiculous argument Phil. I didn't check your source but I'd be willing to bet it has a pro-gun slant. Does it talk about citizens banding together to form a militia against another one of those rogue governments so they can survive?

BTW, that is a good looking girl.

Just like RIDE PROGRAMS don't act as a deterrent for people who wish to drink and drive . Even with out the ride programs people are still drinking and driving causing accidents and killing people .

So what's your point .
Stop using stupid car analogies. You are desperate and embarrassing yourself.

BTW, AFAIK, deaths caused by drunk drivers are on the decline. RIDE works. Guns in the school don't.

Or are you suggesting that we eliminate RIDE/spot checks since it only decreases drunk driving but doesn't eliminate it? There is no logic to your arguments.

Look here dude, there are no guarantees in life. Yes of course a burglar could sneak into your house real quiet and surprise you before you have a chance to reach for your gun. Or the burglar might be clumsy, break a window too loud and giving you ample time to arm yourself.

I'm saying anyone with half a brain knows you stand a better chance to defend yourself with a gun, then without one

I wonder which of those scenarios is more likely to happen....by a huge margin.

Question: do you think a burglar is more likely to shoot at an unarmed man or somebody holding a gun?

Keep trying sweetiepie dude.

Who's suggesting we eliminate ride programs . People still drink and drive no matter what.

Only person that is being desperate is YOU . Drunk drivers may be on the decline but many more people die because of them than in these mass shootings .

Guns in schools don't work . I wonder how many guns there are in these private schools such as Trumps kid goes to . Don't here of any mass shootings in those schools .

Why are you so afraid of using these car analogies . Get rid of the booze and no more drunk drivers . Do you see the logic in that .

Here's a solution shack, if you're so scared that a burglar might shoot at you, then just dont own a gun and leave the gun ownership to those who arent terrified to hold a gun in their hands when confronted by a burglar.

Simple solution, isnt it?!

For home defense in Canada the best solution is a non lethal weapon IF you feel the need. Even a paintball gun loaded with pepper balls is a better choice than running to your gun safe. You do NOT want to use lethal force in Canada or even in the US because of the resulting legal issues. Don’t listen to people about running to your gun safe. Most, like Phil probably don’t even own a gun. Secondly, most robberies or home invasions take place at night and what are the odds you are in close proximity to your gun safe? Is it in your bedroom? Phil - do you keep your porn tapes in it?

Like I said before, humor was never your strong point.

And yeah, bringing a paintball gun to a real gunfight is a brilliant idea

The chances of having to confront an armed burglar is as close to Zero as winning $60M in the lottery. Burglars are not armed, and most burglaries happens when nobody is home.

A dog is the better deterrent than a gun. Keep a cellphone under your pillow instead of a gun.

Gunfights happen between dueling gangs.

Good choice for you when logical thinking shows your proposals are ridiculous. Glad you conceded Phil.

essguy had some valid points. Once again you have no reasoned factual replies. All you can do is mock. Another concession speech by Phil.

I concede you'd hide under the bed if ever confronted by a burglar :biggrin1:

I can see why you've never been married, shack. Most women want to feel protected by their SO.
They want some guy who can take care of them

The worst thing anybody could do is listen to a Rambo fantasizing, NON-gun owner like Phil give advice on the use of guns. If you use a gun in Canada to defend yourself (this applies to many States as well), you better have a pretty damn good, ironclad, explanation or you will be in a world of charges, huge legal bills, and possible jail time. And believe me, you do not point a loaded gun at another human without a good chance of killing. I’m sure “Rambo” Phil will tell you that in the heat of the moment, adrenaline pumping, he will calmly breath, aim, squeeze the trigger and wing the guy. The reality is much different.
