Nice to see Osuna's 97mph heater is back.

Orioles lose so we dont finish last. Keebler will be happy

Woohoo!! They did it!! Forever more the Jays can say they didn't finish last this season. As bad as it was, the Orioles were even worse (hard to fathom).

Glad I followed this end of season contest and I must say I'm surprised the Jays pulled it off. Or maybe that the Orioles would lose 5 in a row. But I'll take it!

That would be very interesting. Maybe like Fernandez/McGriff for Carter/Alomar.

Jays still have him for a year. They would need to get a current star as Shapeero has promised (including to Estrada to help the Jays sign him) that the Jays are going for it next year. This means that he cannot trade JD for prospects.
I would trade JD to the St. Louis Cardinals in a heartbeat for:

1. Paul DeJong, the current shortstop for the Cardinals who looks like a perennial Allstar in his first season (we can move him to 2nd base)

2. Alex Reyes, solid top of the rotation pitcher who has been impressive in limited MLB outings

3. Luke Weaver, solid pitching prospect who appears ready to make the rotation

4. Sandy Alcantara, very raw prospect with a very high ceiling. Has a 100+ mph fastball.

He requested a meeting this week with Atkins to try and convince him to do whatever it takes to stay in Toronto. Apparently he loves it here
I like JD as well. He's my favourite player. But he turns 32 in December, so if Jays want to truly rebuild they might have to seriously think about trading him, especially since Josh will probably demand megabucks in 2019 when his contract is up.

If it were up to me I'd trade him and go with youth

Not saying that your strategy is flawed, but management has clearly stated that they intend to "go for it" next year. They have told the fans that, and Estrada resigned for next year because of this promise. If they trade JD for youth and rebuild, then mgmt. will have publicly lied and would have no credibility with fans or players.

They said that a month ago, and then yesterday during the Yankee pre-game Buck and Tabler said the front office wants to go with youth. So maybe they change their minds, or maybe I heard it wrong.

I think the smart strategy is to go with youth and aim for 2019/2020

If it were me, I would not trade Donaldson unless I knew I could not resign him, either because he wanted to leave(which apparently, he does not!) or if his asking price was too high. If a team , like St. Louis wanted him' the lucky guys would be taking Tulo with him. Would take prospects and/or players off their active roster in return. IMO any trade for a Jay that some other team asks for includes Tulo and that inflated salary of his.

My worry is if Jays hold on to Donaldson and give him a long-term contract in 2019 we're gonna have an inflated payroll with guys on the wrong end of 30 (Tulo, Martin, JD, Estrada, Happ).

I know many here will disagree with me, but I'd love to trade all 5 (if we get good prospects for them)

Troy Tulowitzki has a full no-trade clause.
Estrada & Happ are (at this point) not signed for 2019.
Russ Martin isn't going anywhere.
If Donaldson resigns, I suspect he'll have some wording in his deal regarding movement.

If they did change their mind I imagine Marco is pissed.

No one in their right mind trades a solid perennial All Star with MVP calibre ability like JD for 1st year major leaguers / prospects. Most of those guys are going to be flash in the pans / average MLB ballplayers. And you've already hit the motherlode with JD.

After this horrible season Estrada should consider himself lucky he still has a job
Some decent starts late in the season made him look a lot better.

Estrada did not have a horrible season, he had a horrible ~7 weeks.

The Jays obviously wanted him, as would other teams. But if Phil is right, they lied to him about going for it next year. He said that that was a big factor in him staying here.

He might still agree to a trade though

Correction then, we'll have an inflated payroll in 2018 as Donaldson also becomes eligible for arbitration

Why not??
Where would the Blue Jays trade Tulo, without eating the vast majority of the $58,000,000 remaining on his deal (assuming they buy out the option).

Josh Donaldson has been eligible for arbitration the past 2 (might be 3?) seasons.
An increase is to be expected in 2018, my guess a $4-5M bump, should he go to arbitration.

Why isn't Russ likely to go anywhere?
I have 40,000,000 guesses why.
Pretty much the same reasons as Tulowitzki, though I don't believe he has a NTC.
