The entire outfielders needed to be replace and that will include Pillar.
Agreed, but I would say Pillar is third on my list to be replaced. Apparently that guy Alfred is the next big thing (I wasn't impressed from what I saw before he got hurt). Hernandez in right, Alfred in left, Pillar in centre (or find a replacement for him). It can't be that hard to find a decent outfielder of any position.

I'm giving Pillar a little bit of a break because I think his slur incident totally wrecked his mental game. If there's no one better, I could live with playing him another year to see if he can recover. His defense covers up his flaws to some degree.

Rays won last night, puts them 2 up on the Jays. Very difficult to catch them now. Jays and Orioles would both have to sweep, and Orioles would still finish on top of Jays.

Pretty much comes down to the Jays winning more games of the 3 left than the Orioles. Tie goes to the Orioles.

Interesting concept. Pillar's numbers offensively are OK, not great but not awful. Defensively has speed and determination, arm so-so. Hernandez offensively appears to be the steal of the year. Will the offense continue as the teams and pitchers get an extended look at him? So far, so good, but he has had less than 100 ML at bats this season. Alford lots of potential but lots of question marks. This out field would have speed but outside of Pillar not much ML experience. Steve Pearce would appear to be the 4th outfielder in this alignment.

Jays have a surplus of outfielders controlled for next season, with Pillar, Pearce, Teoscar, Alford, Dwight Smith Jr, Carrera, plus a possible free agent signing to replace Bautista. There's also Roemon Fields in AAA who may be even better defensively than Pillar. Fields' stock is on the rise after a good season offensively in Buffalo. The Cuban shortstop Lourdes Gurriel can also play the outfield. He was slowed by injuries this year but could surprise in spring training. Then there's still Pompey recovering from injury , although I think the ship sailed on him a while ago.

The free agent class this offseason for center fielders is pretty weak. The big name is Lorenzo Cain, then you have Carlos Gomez who's a big step down from Cain, and then a bunch of 4th outfielder types like Rajai Davis and Cameron Maybin. The pickings will be slim for teams looking to upgrade their CF. Shatkins would be foolish not to at least dangle Pillar's name out there and see what bites.

Pillar's defense, age and low salary make him attractive. The Jays can actually get something of value in return. You're not getting a bag of doritos for Carrera.

Alford’s one of the top outfield prospects in the game, his rise through the minors has been impressive considering he lost 2.5 seasons of development playing college football. He draws walks which is a good sign for a young hitter. I think they prefer he spends another year in AAA but an impressive spring can change things.

Pearce should be in a utility role and not playing everyday in left field. He’s almost as bad as Collabello was out there LOL

Teoscar Hernandez can play centerfield. Could make Pillar trade bait

Phil: Hernandez will be a ok as a back up in center, right now he is still learning to play the outfield. Give him time to develop and as I said in a previous post, lets see what happens when he faces the pitchers a second and third time, and teams get a book on him. His numbers with the Jays are awesome but he has less than 100 at bats. The good news IMO he is hitting every type of pitch thrown so he is not just a fastball hitter. Alford can also play center if he is ready to step up.
I would not be in a hurry to trade Pillar(unless someone wants to say take him and Tulo's contract and give the Jays prospects that are real close) as he could come back and bite you big time.

Don't forget about a guy coming out of Japan. He can either pitch or swing the bat! Then, it will be a miracle in the north if Jays could pry 'that' guy from the Marlins. Stanton is going for his 60th HR on the weekend. You need HR production type of outfielders to replace the power bat of past JB. What JB's average HR since he's with the Jays? 30-40 a year? So, two OF at the minimum expect to hit at least 50HR between them, imho. I don't count Pillar to hit many HR's.

Yeah, for sure. He also has to beware of the sophomore jinx.

My gut feeling tells me he's gonna be a star though

Pillar's biggest negatives are his batting average and OBP. If he can raise those two by 30 points or so he's a keeper

Yeah,I'm praying that Pillar could be a second coming of Smokies this year for next summer. Don't think Lorenzo Cain will be the answer because Cain is 3 years older than Pillar. Jays are trying to get younger!

Another loss... adding to the Jay's cursed string of games not being able to leap frog the team ahead of them...

Anyone know what the number is now? It's gotta be big

Definitely Toronto. In my opinion thats not even a question.
The only worry is can he handle a full season in MLB at his age??

People have to remember he's only 24. If he doesnt bloom until 27, that still means you're getting an excellent offensive player from 27 till about 32 or 33 or so.

Its almost a no-lose proposition

The reason they never quite catch Balt and TBay is that the Jays are not good enough this year. Let it go.

2018 is where it's at now for the BJ's.

Since that 2 - 11 start they have been around .500 the rest of the year. Unless another teams tanks, the Jays were not going anywhere.

2016 showed how important starting pitching was to a team that wasn't hitting well. 2017 proved it.

Technically the Yanks can catch and pass Boston this weekend.

Nailed it. The team had 2 reliable starters - Stro and Happ. Decent mid relief. An erratic closer. And a meagre offence. Not an awful team. But essentially a .500 team after the horrendous start. If they went 7-7 in the first couple of weeks, they would probably be a game or two ahead of TBay. Still well out of the playoffs.

Nothing to see here, folks. Better luck next year.
