You know that about Bautista? I've never heard one word that he doesn't want to stay in Toronto.
You don't recall when they didn't sign him to the extension a few years back and he got pissed off?

Bautista will only stay in Toronto if the money isn't better elsewhere. His biggest problem is his own declining performance. If he was still where he was 2 years ago he'd be long gone making more money elsewhere. But he's tanked and no one wants to pay what he now wants. He was hoping to have a turnaround year and then hit the market again; that hasn't happened and this may be the Bautista of the future. In which case there's a good chance he'll be back in Toronto, for the right price (from the BJ's perspective--they may want to shed his salary regardless and a rebuilding year gives them the excuse they need).

On the bright side, Shapiro has a track record of re-building so this is what he's (supposedly) good at. We'll see.

They should pitch Estrada today then Happ so they can get as many starts as possible and see if they get back into form so they are tradable
Happ's been solid recently, I'm not sure what he needs to do to get back in form?
Estrada would likely throw a no-hitter today. The Blue Jays don't play until Friday.

J. .A. Happ's last 6 starts:

5 starts of 6 or more innings, (other 1, 4 innings)
Earned runs given up in those 6 starts? 2, 1, 2, 1, 3, 0
8 Walks over 6 starts, 33K's

Sunday's start vs. Houston wasn't great, the other 5 have been solid.
Every starter in MLB has an off day now and then, even Clayton Kershaw, Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer.

You didn't comment on Estrada's likelihood of success today?
like you said, no hitter and no walks . Unfortunately, Jays hitters will do same

if Happ is in top form, as you suggest, then I change my mind and say pitch him less in case he goes south

Pitch Estrada as much as you can hoping he regains form

The idea being to trade them

most contenders would love another good arm

As I said before, the Jays have the oldest team in baseball right now, they have to rebuild soon, they have no choice

WTF do yo think they are going to do?
I honestly dont know.

Its a toss-up between keeping guys like JD and keep the ticket-train going, or just dumping half the team and start looking towards 2019 and beyond

Jays have not indicated they plan on a massive rebuild
How do you know this??
Not trying to be a jerk, but have you talked to Shapiro personally??

The Blue Jays are open to moving Liriano, Estrada, Smith, Howell, Happ and Pearce because they are gone as FA

only happ will get any quality return as he is a quality pitcher and is under contract for next year but someone may take a flyer on Estrada hoping he comes around and smith should draw interest as he was great out of pen before injury and is back soon

The Cubs just gave up 4 top prospects for Chisox Quintana a starter with a 4.5 ERA
Thats actually not a bad trade assuming he's just having an off-year.

EDIT: I take that back, they gave up a 100MPH flamethrower
