I would have signed with Houston too:

1. Better chance of winning a championship vs. the raptors
2. Net income will be higher in Houston due to income tax considerations if the Raptors made the same offer.
Agree with you he has a better chance of a ring in Houston, and while the tax considerations in Texas are preferable, here, he gets paid in U.S. dollars but uses the Cdn. dollar while living here. The difference is significant!
Looks to me as if Masai has a pile of work to do if he wants to keep the Raptors competitive!

We offered same money over 3 years! He just wanted Houston. Too bad. Tucker and Ibaka were both huge in the playoffs. We only succeeded to keep one of them. Let's see if Masai can make one more deal to replace Tucker....hopefully even an upgrade. Do we have a shot st Milsap still? Give up Caroll and Patterson?

3 years, $100MM for Lowry from the Raptors (from The Vertical). Fair deal for both, IMO.

Ibaka signed as well 3 yrs $65,000,000

I think both deals are fair considering the way salaries are in the NBA

Wonder if there will be more free agent signings or is there a possibility of a trade?

Lowry signing was horrible. No one would have offered him $25 million a year. Why are we paying him $8 million dollars mor than that?

Ibaka signing was fair.

Wish we signed Tyler Ennis to a 5 year $30 million contract instead and invested in improving our roster elsewhere.

This roster is far from a championship team.

I'm always puzzled by 'fans' who complain about what players get paid. Especially players who are All-Stars. Unless you have inside information about what other teams offered Lowry, don't speculate. The Raptors offered him what they felt he was worth. End of.

It's called deductive reasoning. At $25 million a year there was no team in the NBA that offers the same combination of a lucrative contract and winning situation like the Raptors.

The team has very little flexibility at the moment. The Lowry signing seals the fate of the Raptors. A playoff team and nothing more.

In other words... You have no clue. You just said that the Raptors are a playoff team and nothing more, but it's a winning situation?

Gotta play the hand we are dealt. Derozan and Lowry both came back after the previous summer vastly improved. Gotta hope someone else on the squad does so this year as well. I remember Amir making a quantum leap after one Summer break. He started hitting all of his little 3-5foot jumpers. I'm hopin Delon Wright can show up greater or Siakam, or imagine Nogeira turning that corner?!?!
Or Masai makes a big trade. :)

Masai doesn't low ball players. Low balling players sends a bad message to agents and other players. No future player would ever sign with the Raps if management was known for low balling players.

I like both deals for Ibaka and Lowry. In 2020, the Raps will have over $100 mil to spend on free agents. Continue to win, and the perception of this franchise will change down south. I prefer this way of building a championship instead of tanking. The Spurs model is the correct way to go.

Masai needs to dump Joseph & Carrol/Valanciunas to free up cap space to use the mid-level exemption. There are some bargains to be had out there.

Now that some dust has settled, if DD improves the 3 this summer, breakout years for Stormin' and DWright, and upside for DC and JV actually happen (if they aren't traded), Serge gets camp to integrate, then we will be better than last year.

Overpaid KLo and lost PJ bcuz of that (and term), but that's life in the NBA nowadays. I think we are still top 2 or 3 in the East but I hope ,now that he's staying, Masai still has some tricks up the sleeve. But being top in east is sullied this year as everyone is now out west (Butler et al) so/but it gives us an opportunity to stay on top of the DLeague talent of the East!

im sure there will more drama as summer goes on. Enjoy the summer all and when the leaves start to turn again, we will see what this edition is like. Till then, have a great summer fellow Raptorites, be safe and make your free throws!!!

Lets go Raptors!

gfe I am hoping for a major trade, JV Cory DC and a youngster or two could/should be available. Need another PF and some energy off the bench. Would be surprised to see them bring Paterson back but ya never know. Hope they get it done sooner than later.

Have not heard or read anything new on Masai moving to NY. Hope it stays that way!

Agreed. CJ Miles is a great role player. I think Terrence Jones may flourish as well because of the strong veteran leadership on the roster. Heck I would even take a flier on Larry Sanders with an invitation to training camp.

Can I just say that you give GM's extra money and they are clueless in what to do with it .. What a friggin mess Raps team payroll is ..

The Ujiri honey moon is not yet over. With Lowry and DeRosen continuing to play at their prime, the Raptors will continue to be competitive for a couple more years and that'll keep Ujiri immune to any criticism.

If trading Bragani and Gay were his best moves, you have to wonder if that's the best we'll see with this team. Just exactly what has Ujiri added in 4 years to improve the core other than replacing Ross with Ibaka ?

Agreed. WTF was Masai thinking?

Kyle Lowry is not worth $33 million a year. $25 million a year was more than enough. Only team I could think that would have offered more than $25 million a year is Sacramento or New York. If Kyle was all about the money let him go. But to overpay to keep a guy that will be on the decline is extremely foolish.

I hope Masai goes to New York. IMHO he just goy lucky with the Rudy Gay trade. If Masai goes to New York perhaps we can pry their 1st round pick next year.

I am far more impressed with Danny Ainge. He has cap flexibility, a young core, and future draft picks. He also has a far superior coach in Brad Stevens.

It could be worse, Bargnani could still be here! Fields was another player that got good money and did nothing and can you say Sullinger?
Bruno is still getting paid and playing D league, looks like he may still be 2 years away from being 2 years away. Bebe always has that big smile on his face and he does his best work on the pine. Not sure what Siakim is at this point either, he too looks like a big time work in progress. Think Masai keeps them around as they fill his roster and are at the low end of the payroll. The money Lowry Ibaka and DD are being paid is not outlandish by NBA standards, lets just hope they produce!

We'll see. Only time will tell. There doesn't seem to be a lot of free agent options available to come our way. Maybe we might get lucky internationally. Remember Anthony Parker? Just get this feeling someone's coming from overseas???
Still think someone's gotta make a leap in progress from within too. Would be great to see Delon Wright have a breakout full season after maybe dumping Cory Joseph. OG is ready by November the say, but can't ask too much from the kid. (however that's what we have the 905 for, they run all the same sequences and defense)
Gotta get lucky sometime? Wasn't Bruno the MVP in last years D league?
