Anyone know about cellphones from Huawei?? I am looking to upgrade my phone and I know the basics and most of the big names IPhone, Samsung, LG etc however got to a store today and the salesperson kept showing me a Huawei phone and telling me it is huge in China and India (I know what people will say should be red flags) and is going to be the next big phone in North America. It is better than Samsung and LG and at least as good as IPhone etc. I never heard of this type of phone before and some on line research seems to indicate that it is at least as good as Samsung and is getting some good reviews.
Anyone have anything they can share?

Huawei is terrific. Chinese military company. Great battery life and reception. You can bring one to the middle of the forest and it would be the only phone with reception. However when you break the screen you wont find a fast fix and will have to wait weeks.

The question is are you turning over all your information to the Chinese gov't? I just don't trust this when it comes to my phone.

I know I'm a dinosaur but I love my BlackBerry Passport.

What's the big deal? All they'll find are a few select contacts, a bunch of texts to girls on backpage, and a little bit of porn surfing.

And with some, banking information. Proprietary business knowledge.

Let alone targeting individuals for be blackmail in sensitive positions. The Chinese have already tried to use a few honeypot to get Canadian gov't employees.

Anytime it's a Chinese company the gov't has a hand in it.

And the CIA/NSA wanted Apple to give them a backdoor to every iPhone on the planet. They already record most phone calls in the western world. The US phone companies are doing their patriotic duty to the security state.

Ya! US spooks good..... China bad!

The hypocrisy!

There is nothing in my statement that is hypocritical. The issue is many Chinese companies are in fact controlled by the state. So they don't even need to use legal means. They just do it.

Apple at least fought it. That the USA gov't still broke in has no bearing on the point that the Chinese company could very well be a Trojan horse for access to your personal information. And easily shut down devices in the event of a war. Or be used in a cyber attack. Because any malware can be baked in initially.

As to the spooks down south. Again. That's why I like my BlackBerry. And why I don't do banking on the phone anyway. I can't be foolproof but I remain extra aware of things as best I can.

Don't buy an LG.

I'm with Fido and they gave me an LG G3 six weeks ago because they just give me a new phone every 2 years for close to nothing.
Anyway, it's been quite terrible. Really awful. There's something wrong with the antenna because I constantly have no reception. I constantly have to move 50 metres over there or 300 metres over there to get minimal 1 x 1 cell phone reception.

I don't give a rat's ass about Apple; but, I've got to say my Iphone always had 5 x 5 reception and I could always make calls with it no problem.
I had to bring the LG in for repairs and I'm back to using my old iphone all the time with no problems.
I think I'm going to sell the LG on Kijiji after I get it back from Fido. I've come to hate the phone because of the terrible cell reception.

GM and Chrysler sue Mercedes and BMW for patent infringement all the time, having some knowledge of electronics I know there are only so many ways you can design a cell phone ( or any type of electronic device )
It will be up to the litigant to show proof of the infringement.

On the matter of people seeing spies around every corner, that is the sort of person that believe Bin Laden is still alive and there is a colony of aliens doling out technological advances to mankind living at Area 54.

Chasing my tail
I have a Huawei hobby phone, it can find wifi almost anywhere. My I-phone needs to see the router b/4 it detects the signal. I've had a few freeze screen episodes with the Huawei, but for what I use it for and what I have invested it's not a big deal to me. It's a 7-11 pay as you go.
