Is it just me, or does this team look more dangerous with an extra guy or two that doesnt swing for the fences all the time. They look more dangerous with Carrera and Barney in the lineup. Imho.

No, you are right. I brought this point up earlier, shack's response was Jays are a homerun hitting team and therefore should swing for the fences at all times. This is just plain wrong, even a homerun hitting team has to be able to mix up their play with bunts, opposite field hitting, moving runners along, hitting a single when the situation dictates it......etc.....etc.

But lets see, maybe the hitting will start coming around now

But I'm getting a little sick and tired of Jose, his beard, and his early count infield pop ups tbh! So sad to see such a good hitter with a good natural eye, be so incredibly pull happy egotistically all the time. When timing is off, up it goes, pop fly in the sky.

well I was doubly mad at Gibbons tonight because I did not know why EE was out of line up....he should have left Dickey in during the 7th..he is a veteran, generally pitching well and was better than our bullpen options.....the Phillies pitcher put on a clinic in mixing pitches.....felt sorry for diamond....combination of slow and wild. Zeke contributes again...Travis hitting up the middle...rest of team mailed it in

I said they were not designed to play small ball, meaning not a lot of bunting and base stealing, which is what was suggested they do much more of. But they can still hit with men in scoring position, and hit the opposite way or hit line drives for doubles etc. There are many ways to score without bunting or always swinging for the fences.

Yesterday, Pillar crushed one...tonight he was terrible swinging at pitches in the other batters box... a couple weeks ago Travis hits one at Boston, and then nosedives into a long slump...same thing after Goins hit one, and Thole hasn't hit since his one.....does the homer go to their head?

I said they were not designed to play small ball, meaning not a lot of bunting and base stealing, which is what was suggested they do much more of. But they can still hit with men in scoring position, and hit the opposite way or hit line drives for doubles etc. There are many ways to score without bunting or always swinging for the fences.

When they have a team approach of going the opposite field, or going with the pitch, thinking base hit rather than swinging for the fence all the time, this team can hit. And they clobber mistakes. Naturally! As they happen. The amount runners this team leaves on base at times is sickening. And they don't need to play small ball to get base hits.

I don't know why I am so hard on Jose right now. I just feel like his pull happy ego rubs off on the team in an approach they have at the plate at times. The Jays look better with Carerra hitting lead off. I really like it.

I like Saunders. I like Bautista DH, Edwin at first, Carrera in right, and Smoak off the bench and giving occasional day offs. If Collobello was around that would have been Smoaks role anyways. They didn't sign him to play everyday. And I love Pompey back up as a late inning pinch runner and a utility outfielder.

I also like Barney at second, with either Travis or Goins as a utility back up, with the other in AAA. Travis should go back down, no? Once Tulo comes back, I think second base should be Barneys until someone takes the job away, or Barney proves this is all a fluke and he's meant to be a bench player lol.

Not hitting singles up the middle when the situation dictates it, is on Gibby. I have seen our sluggers do this too many times, they swing for the fences when a single up the middle could tie or win us the game. Again, this is on Gibby.

You need a strong manager who will give his hitters shit when they dont play fundamental baseball. Gibby comes across as a bit weak in that department. No wonder players love the guy, he never reprimands them when they need it

It's very unlikely that they will learn bunting at this level if they don't know it already. Basic skills should be taught at lower levels, the American League is not a development league.

No, it's on the hitters. Unless Gibby perhaps has some sort of message like "basehit will do, but why not try to jack one into the third deck for us".

Yeah this is a good lineup. As Gibby says, go with the hot hand; Carrera is hitting well so go with him and have Smoak coming off the bench.

Yeah, Barney is hot so ride him until he isn't. It looks like they may have rushed back Travis. But there's no rushing back Tulo. He's makes $20mil so he is entitled to collect his paycheck sitting out with a sore quad
