Q. Johnny Cash was the first American to know of Stalin's death. How?

From post #638 above:

In 1965, Johnny’s truck caught fire due to an overheated wheel bearing, which triggered the forest fire in Los Padres National Forest in California.

When a judge asked him why he did it, he said “I didn’t do it, my truck did, and it’s dead, so you can’t question it.” When the damage was accounted for, Cash was pressed with all of it, especially the killing of the condors, but he was unrepentant in refusing blame, saying “I don’t care about your damn yellow buzzards.”

Cash was sued by the government for what would be $900,000 today, but settled for closer to $642,000 in today’s values.

Grossly INCORRECT answer in post #638. It is a sad day when someone copies & pastes a completely irrelevant and unrelated paragraph to answer their own question. Unless, of course, a forest fire in California is somehow connected to Joseph Stalin.

The correct answer to the question is:

"Before becoming a musician, Cash worked in the Air Force. While most people waited to be drafted for the required two years, Cash wanted more and stayed for four. He was shipped to Germany during the Korean War. His role was to intercept and decipher Russian morse code. ... That's right, the man in black, discovered that Soviet Union Premier, Joseph Stalin, died before US president Dwight Eisenhower even knew. He was working as a radio operator for the military at the time of Stalin's death and was the first person to receive the message."

Ah yes. Another petulant & passive-aggressive response from the non-existent & made up Sanjay Gupta from Terb's resident Man-Child. Instead of admitting when he's wrong (again), he credits his non-existent friend, Gupta, with the answer (again). He has made Gupta appear earlier in this thread when his errors were brought to his attention and refused to credit correct answers accordingly. He must be a load of fun at the playground when he takes his ball and goes home in a hissy fit.

Q. " "Early in the 20th century, the British tried to build a structure to out do the Eiffel Tower but failed."

A. "True. Blackpool Tower"

At the time when the Eiffel tower was built in the later half of the 1800s, there was a strong Angle/French rivalry. When the Eiffel tower was built the Brits wanted to outdo the french. There were several attemps to build a tower more spectacular than the Eiffel tower. None of the later towers came close to the reputation of the one in Paris."

Again, you have incorrectly answered your own question.

The Blackpool Tower you cited as your 'correct' answer was commenced in 1891 and completed in 1894 - all in the 19th century. Blackpool Tower was built before 'early in the 20th century' ever began as per your question.

PS. Sanjay Gupta is laughing at you! Keep trying. I'm sure at some point, you'll be able to answer one of your own questions correctly.
