I seem to remember that there were 13 colonies.

The Thirteen Colonies were a group of British colonies on the east coast of North America founded in the 16th and 17th centuries that declared independence in 1776 and formed the United States. The thirteen were: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts Bay, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

Besides these thirteen, Britain had another dozen in the New World. Those in the British West Indies, Newfoundland, the Province of Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Bermuda, and East and West Florida remained loyal to the crown throughout the war.

Greenland has a building that can give courses to 100 students, but formal university educations are achieved bysending students to universities in Europe or North America tuition and expense free.

That sounds deceptive to me.

Using the same logic you could say that there were hundreds of colonies "during" the American Revolutionary war...................all throughout the world and held by many counties.

If you did not mean in America, why do you stop at the new world since location was never specified (though very strongly implied). Nor did you specify the owners of the colonies so one could include Spain and French colonies etc.

I will admit the question was not specific enough, the 13 colonies were the ones that rebelled against England. There were other British colonies ( in north America ) that did not rebel.
