A La Wayne Gretzky. McDavid's first game against the Leafs was stellar with 5 Points, 2 goals and 3 helpers. He was unselfish as he handed the picked to Eberle for his first career hat-trick.

REALLY? No Kadri, Bozak , JVR or Lupul now I know that the leafs suck but take those guys out of the line up and a jr C team could of beat the leafs.
Please don't give me that, injuries are part of the game, macho crap. The leafs just stink with those guys in the line up, take them out, and they really. really suck!

If he did that to the Kings or the Blachhawks then I would be impressed.

McDavid destroys the Leafs but he made my wallet a little bit heavier last night:D
Fading the Leafs is a good thing to do lately if you were a gambler!

NHL teams make no excuses. McDavid handed it to them.

So you pump up his tires because he beat a weaker team full of call ups from the farm, WOW talk about macho. Again, do it to the Kings or the Blachhawks then I would be impressed.
I think the Connor McDavid bang wagon is getting mighty full.
He's only 19 and doing it against guys 3-5 years older than him, that's pretty impressive. The kid is great and is going to destroy more teams. BTW, I was always a McDavid fan, I still think the Leafs should sign him when he's a free agent. Leafs have cap space. Now, everyone says keep dreaming, well that's what everyone said about Babcock coming to Toronto.

I think the offer sheet for mcdavid could be 14-15 million and the so called honour system of not doing it out of respect for the other teams will be ignored. I think the leafs should pass on stamkos and try this with mcdavid, roll up the brinks truck for him.

His two best games were Toronto and Columbus I believe and both at home also I think.

I love Stamkos, and think McDavid will be great. But don't like the idea of paying one guy 10 to 15 million a year. If you shadow one elite player, its possible to shut him down all night.
But shutting down 2-3 scoring lines, isn't so easy.

I'd much rather the leafs sign 3 guys for $5/million deals. I've already said before how I dislike how soft the Leafs (or NHL in general is now) or the lack of heart. I'd like to see Toronto acquire players with guts, and heart.

Both Stamkos and McDavid are huge talents. But also huge 'names' for shirt sales, endorsements, commercials, etc. I often wonder how much that 'seduces' a player when you convince him he is larger than life.

How about seeking players that are notorious for being healthy, who play with heart and show up every night?

I'd rather Toronto seek out names like Ladd, Byfuglien, and Lucic. Go back to being a team others hated playing, not looked forward to.
If the Leafs are thinking about going after McDavid (that's even if the Oilers don't offer him everything) then they can't sign Stamkos. Problem is too much young talent that could develop into first rate players all at the same time. You could have Marner, Nylander, Mathews (possibly) Reilly all wanting top $ all about the same time. Now if you give SS his $12 million a year then you got a big money problem, they simply can't afford to have 5-6 guys making $7-12 million a year and then hope to go after McDavid as a FA.

Mcdavid is an interesting case, he'll be captain next year and could easily get 120+ points the next 2 years, but he'll only be a highlight guy because the team is awful. I think he'll sour on edmonton quickly and want out, don't be surprised if the leafs or rangers offer 13mil plus when he's an RFA in 2 years, see if the oilers match it, the league wants him out of there also.

So if someone offers McDavid a huge long term offer sheet and Edmonton matches is McDavid stuck in Edmonton for the length of the offer? Not sure how that works. Gcostanza what's the rule? I know Philly offered Weber an offer sheet a few years back and Nashville matched.

If someone offers McDavid a 7 year deal and Edmonton matches then yes McDavid is property of the Oilers until the contract runs out or they trade him.

I forgot about philly, the owner is tired of their mediocrity, they will be in play also, maybe boston.

I imagine several clubs will be interested, maybe even the Habs, they desperately need offence.
