Good point.. We should prohibit women from VOLUNTARILY wearing the Niqab at our citizenship ceremony because in another country (about 12,000 km away) a woman was killed for choosing NOT to wear it.. lol...

Gimme a break..
You saying women are not encouraged to wear the niqab in areas of the world where they are commonly worn? Doing something because if I don't I'll be ostracized, beaten or killed, is not really voluntary.

Nice try.. The fact that many believe that this isn't mandatory for Muslims doesn't change the fact that THESE MUSLIM WOMEN WHO DO PRACTICE IT believe it.. You claim they're insulting us by hiding their faces.. I'm telling you they're doing it because they, mistakenly (if it makes you feel better), believe that their God wants them to cover their faces.. It has nothing to do with insulting "us" or our country's values. In fact, because our country values the freedom of religion, they're actually (in their own fucked up and stupid way) kinda showing their respect for our country by immediately exercising one of their most important rights.. The right to practice their own fucked up religion in the fuck up fashion that they believe their fucked up God wants them to..

It's not an insult.. It's fucked up and weird, but it's not an insult..
She already has willingly showed it to immigration officers, at the airport and even to arrange for her drivers license. So obviously she doesn't have as much of a cultural hangup about it as one would think.

However Canadian tradition demands she show her face. Just as it requires swearing to the Queen. Some have refused to do that and as a result still don't have citizenship, despite lawsuits to the contrary.

This falls under that category. Canadian citizenship is a gift. I was fontunate to have won that lottery. She has been offered the same win. She should take it.

I'm saying that if women are being beaten up (in Canada.. Fuck Somalia, people are killed for all kinds of fucked up reasons in 3rd world countries like Somalia), for not wearing the Niqab, then THAT is what should be addressed.. Outlawing the Niqab does nothing to help women whose rights are being abused by their elders/husbands/communities.. All outlawing the Niqab does is trample all over the religious freedoms of those women who DO wear it voluntarily..

Who gives a shit? This is a CEREMONY..

Since when is "We've always done it this way" a legitimate fucking justification for anything?

Ceremony is important. Ask the lady. She wears a veil because "we've always done it this way". When choosing to join a new culture I still don't see the issue with accommodating a one time showing of just her face.

And the vast majority of Canadians agree with this.

Are we really going to go in circles here?? No, she wears it because (mistaken or not) she believes her God wants her to.. And no, Ceremony isn't important..

When choosing to join a new culture
We're a cultural-mosaic.. You should have learned that in grade school.. The great thing about Canada's culture is that you can CHOOSE to bring your OWN culture (including your own stupid religious practices that may or may not reflect how most adherents practice your religion) to the table and have it be respected (and even included)..

Ceremony isn't important to You. To many more it is. And I don't on the other hand give a rats ass about anyone's religion during the swearing in. I consider it a far more important thing to join the nation and show respect for it and it's traditions. Once a person has done that they can choose to wear a mask.

And multiculturalism was foist on us by Trudeau. Sometimes it's worked. Sometimes it hasn't. But nowhere does it say they get to change something as fundamental as the swearing in. And the whole point of it is to have people get to experience a and broaden knowledge. Please feel free to explain how wearing a mask and segregating yourself according to gender is educational.

I only see a selfish person.

You're still an idiot.. Adhering to your own religion (no matter how fucked up it is, or how much you've misinterpreted it) isn't an insult.. You and I both know this.. You can keep babbling all you want about it.. Nobody (yourself included) actually truly considers it an "insult"... Not even for a second..
"Adhering to your own religion (no matter how fucked up it is, or how much you've misinterpreted it) isn't an insult",...

This is so far the most ridiculous thing you have stated,...so far.

But,...I guess throwing acid in a women s face, slashing a women s face,...and murdering women in Canada,...as simply adhering to ones religion,...but isn't an insult,...

And actually,...85% of Canadians do consider what that women did,... an insult.

Question for ya,...can you guarantee that the women in question will NEVER go in public without hiding her face,...???

I notice you have same mentality as the other losers here,...than when you are losing a "debate",...you have to compensate with insults,...but according to you,...that's OK.

lol

Please look up the definition to the word "fundamental".. Then take the time to realize that our swearing in ceremony isn't "fundamental" it's "CEREMONIAL"... :frusty:

Nice try half wit.. 85% of 3,000 Canadian respondants to a poll disagree with (either strongly or "somewhat") wearing the Niqab at the ceremony.. Read the fucking poll questions and answers.. YOU alone claim it's an insult..

It is not that clear cut. Muslim men and women are both supposed to be modest, with many views on what this means. This is simply another approach to make women second class citizens.

Even when that culture is degrading, or goes against basic human rights? There are too many examples of Muslims killing women for the "shame" they have brought on the family. At some point this is still Canada, with equality and basic human rights for all. When you bring cultural aspects that violate this, time to change or simply stay in a country that supports your backwards lifestyle.

ALL of the polls confirmed that CANADIANS disproved of the women hiding her face,...from 77% to as high as 88%.

Why was that,...simply because she was insulting Canada,...why the hell else would Canada disprove of her hiding her face.

Again with the school yard insults,...still losing,...!!!

Read post #57, if you want to know how Canadians feel about adhering to a degrading religion/culture,...you might learn something.

No one gave a damn when women were wearing their Niqabs during the swearing in ceremony. That is until Jason Kenney came out with his retarded law claiming that this was not the Canadian way. So what happens to all the ones that wore the Niqab before this Kenney law came into effect? The courts already made a ruling that the Kenney Law was unconstitutional. Kenney even conducted a scam swearing in ceremony at the now defunct Sun News Network Studio, that controversially included employees from the Sun at the swearing in ceremony. Yes taxpayers money was used for that purpose and I guess all the ones wanting the banning of the Niqab will approve of that stupid scam artist ceremony.

I've been noticing lately that the Tory haters are getting more shrill as the election continues. I suppose when you see something you want slipping away it happens to some people.

Any number of reasons.. You really are a hateful little man.

Perhaps some Canadians are misinformed and are worried that the entire citizenship process would be done anonymously (fearing the woman's face would be covered for the entire process, rather than just the ceremony)/

Perhaps some Canadians (like Butler) just like tradition, and don't want to change. (Although I'm quite certain that tradition has actually allowed for these types of religious accommodations in the past... Prior to the ban which was just recently overturned).

Perhaps some Canadians are hateful swine who are pathetically obsessed with doing anything and everything to make Muslims feel like they don't belong.

Perhaps some Canadians are just averse to any kind of "religious accommodation" because they misinterpret "freedom of religion" as "freedom FROM religion".
