Galarraga handled the situation with class both that day & the next when
Tigers manager Jim Leyland sent him out to present the lineup card.


Jim Joyce was, and still is, one of the best in the game.




No comparison at all, but I coached kids ball for a few years, and occasionally only
one umpire would show up for games, and the coaches would ump the bases.
It would never have crossed my mind to make a call to help my team,
I just wanted to get the call right.
That is a tough job (with 12 to 16 year olds), let alone in a multi-billion dollar business.
You've got mere seconds to make and show your decision.

The Toronto Blue Jays optioned left-hander Aaron Loup to triple-A Buffalo following Sunday’s game, paring their bullpen from eight relievers to seven.

A corresponding roster move will come in the next few days and it could likely involve the addition of an outfielder. The Blue Jays have Monday off and visit the Philadelphia Phillies for a two-game set beginning Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Loup, who sports a 5.20 ERA in 36.1 innings this season, has been used sparingly by the Blue Jays this month. He’s only appeared in two August games, allowing one run on three hits over 1.2 innings.

“He’s been the forgotten man down there,” said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons on Sunday. “That’s just the way it is. We picked up a couple guys (at the trade deadline) and he’s had his struggles this year. The tough part about it is he’s really been one of the go-to guys the last couple of years.”

With the Bisons Loup may get a regular dose of work that could help him tune up for September, when rosters expand.

Loup broke into the big leagues in 2012 and enjoyed three successful seasons pitching out of the Blue Jays bullpen prior to this year. He posted a 2.64 ERA as a rookie and followed that with seasons of 2.47 and 3.15 ERA ball.

Sad, but necessary given how poor he's been this season.

Hutch is clutch.

In other news. The MLB ALS Ice Bucket Challenge hasn't been getting much traction lately. Did the Tigers follow through on getting called out by the Jays? I'm assuming every team is participating and that the Yankees will go last. A-Rod could go a long way in rehabilitating his image by following Jose's example by sitting on the dunk tank.

Reports out there is that Jays are contemplating of sending Hutch down to Buffalo. They don't need a 5th starter on this road trip. So far we learn from the Jays pitching staff that we try to avoid starting Hutch on the road as much as possible. And, don't bring in Sanchez when there's men on base in the 8th! Or, any late innings for that matter. Sanchez is still learning how to hold men on base and don't let them score. Sanchez looked good from starting the 8th yesterday.
Not greedy but the Jays need to win every series on the road this week. No sweeps but win,baby!

I doubt that Hutch is going down given his heroics in the last two games, when he was the Jays' most effective starter over the last week.

With the off days, there is the opportunity to only start Hutch at Rogers.

According to a tweet by Bob Elliott, the Blue Jays are considering recalling International League superstar Matt Hague from triple-A Buffalo for the upcoming series against the Phillies. A spot on the 25-man roster was created when Aaron Loup was optioned following Sunday's game. Hague, affectionately known as MattVP by Bisons fans, has been the International League's best hitter ever since Chris Colabello was called up. He is hitting .348/.427/482 for a 169 wRC+ with the BIsons this year, having cut his strikeout rate substantially (his .378 BABIP doesn't hurt either). Hague leads the league in average, on base, hits, RBIs, BABIP, and is second in slugging (just .001 from the lead), second in walks, third in doubles. He also seemingly has this knack of getting a clutch hit when the Bisons needed him to come through.

The 29-year-old had a couple of cups of coffee with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012 and 2014 after being drafted by them in the 9th round of the 2008 draft. He was picked up on waivers a year ago tomorrow and has been playing for Buffalo ever since, splitting his time between third and first base. He is not a fantastic fielder at third but is tolerable. He rakes lefties, this year hitting .394/.480/.577 against them. He already has a spot on the 40-man roster.

Hague is like a slightly younger, more inexperienced, less proven, but, most importantly less expensive, version of Danny Valencia who doesn't play the outfield (to be fair, neither does Valencia). He has the sort of bat that would be useful off the bench in this upcoming series against the Phillies, where National League rules are in play. Dalton Pompey has been hurt with a rolled ankle and the plan might be for him to swap places with Hague after this series.

John Lott wrote a fantastic profile of Hague a few weeks back when it didn't look like he was going to get the call.

According to Bluebird Banter's Blue Jays Option and Outright Status Table, Hague is on his last option year in 2015 which means he can be sent back to Buffalo, but he will need to go through optional waivers.

Hutch demoted to AAA , Matt Hague and Ezequiel Carrera up.

11 pitchers and 14 position players on the roster now.
It makes sense with all the off-days coming and some games in the NL parks (no DH).

Hutch will be back when rosters expand September 1, he's been pitching well , I'd imagine he's really pissed off.

When's the last time a 12-2 pitcher got demoted... or ever? LOL

Actually it's common to use asterisks to substitute for letters in order to avoid spelling obscenities or offensive words. Not generally considered a requirement for contractions. I know this could confuse you. I can explain what a contraction is for you if you wish. ( and no, IQ-47, nobody is having a baby )

Some one on here was promoting Hutch for the Cy Young.....tongue in cheek I presume......hard to give it to a guy who gets demoted during the season. Quite unfair to Hutch by the way...a guy who battled back from Tommy John...and who has pitched more good than bad.....he earned his spot in the rotation with those last 2 starts....and a little extra rest with a 5 man rotation might help in the last couple weeks.

Get back to us when you allow Jays fans to overreact on the team W-L record? Perhaps, 0-8 on this road trip? Then,we ALLOW to over react by you? LOL.
You don't go into any game situations and expect less than what your team potential can deliver. Negatives thinking I might add.
Unfortunately, I am a die hard Leafs fan so I tend to overreact to any TOR sports teams (other than the Leafs) that are doing well. LOL
BTW, I am not alone on this... so called overreaction..
