Galarraga handled the situation with class both that day & the next when
Tigers manager Jim Leyland sent him out to present the lineup card.
Jim Joyce was, and still is, one of the best in the game.
No comparison at all, but I coached kids ball for a few years, and occasionally only
one umpire would show up for games, and the coaches would ump the bases.
It would never have crossed my mind to make a call to help my team,
I just wanted to get the call right.
That is a tough job (with 12 to 16 year olds), let alone in a multi-billion dollar business.
