Are the Toronto police fleeing in the face of the enemy?

I spoke to someone who attended, a gal and her girlfriend. She said their purses were searched, and cigarettes and a lighter were confiscated. (Really - why?)
More interesting, she said that there was clearly danger in the air at Muzik that night, and she and her friend left the party early, after at most an hour's visit, for their safety.

She was not surprised to hear about the later eruption of violence, though shaken by it. She said something was just waiting to erupt.

He said fuck all. If he was true to himself, he would have said, "I urge all those with information as to these murders to come forward and do the right thing and speak to the police. Justice needs to be served.

Instead he just wrote about how hard it's bee on him, woe is me, and he's sorry for the families.

Coward

If something like this happened at a U2 concert, I would bet everything that I own that the next day Bono and Edge and Larry and Adam would do the right thing and they would be on TV appealing to witnesses to come forward. In case that wasn't enough, they would get the word out through the newspapers and radio.

Drake is only worried about Drake.

Agreed.

And it's so carefully crafted, I doubt it was even written by him personally.

At first I thought it was a nice post, but James Kirk made an excellent point.

So I'll have to agree that he should be urging the public to cooperate with the police. Would that affect his popularity? Does he know something the police should know? Is he safely staying away from the discussion or any responsibility?

It's all about Drake trying to have street cred and the culture of no snitching in Hip Hop. That same attitude doesn't exist in other music. You don't hear about this shit at other genre concerts.
If Drake wants to be a rep for this city then he has completely abandoned his responsibility here as a prominent member to speak out and deter this behavior. And to change the no snitch culture.

He has lost the respect of this writer.

police should shut the fuck up and catch the shooter instead of "pleading" for one person to come forward.

person gets the shit kicked out of him for exercising charter protected rights in front of 1000 witnesses. how many of them come forward?

this is an extremely uninformed statement at best

news flash as a canadian you have every right not to speak to the police.

if you want to talk about the people pushing a "no snitch culture" direct it at the spinless gang that is the police

Why are there so many guns and so easily available ? Why do these gangs have no fear of the Police force? Any answers to that?

We all have a responsibility and duty to make our society a safer place for all. It is not just the police, but the victims' families and others have urged Drake and anybody else who have any information to come forward.

Agreed. It was all over the news that Drake had "spoken out" about the shootings so I assumed he was asking for witnesses to come forward. Then I saw excepts of his statement and I thought there must have been more. Nope. He gave a statement for the sake of giving a statement and didn't even bother to do the most relevant thing: ask for witnesses to come forward to catch the killer(s). Dumbass.

In terms of being a professional musician and celebrity, he lost my respect. It's embarrassing that he's a "spokesperson" for Toronto.

no we dont. that is the police have the responsibility that is what we pay them to do. citizens have the responsibility to follow the law. that is it. the victims families can urge what ever they want. citizens arent obligated to give up their rights for any reason. It isnt up to any one. Wasnt that place crawling with police and they didnt see anything???? but it is one persons fault that is just exercising their right? Stupid terb logic.

again it isn't Drake's job to ask people to come forward to the police. He isnt getting paid by TPS. He has already talked about preventive measures about not using guns in the first place.

Right. BabyPowder I'm calling it. Your an idiot. You are are actually advocating the whole no snitch culture. You are actually taking the side of not assisting in the investigation of an innocent persons murder. All because you want to defend an undefenseable position.

You're a pretty sad human being that you would state the public shouldn't help catch these killers.

You are part of what's wrong with the world.

TPS has been promoting "no snitch" culture for a long time.

2nd of all you don't even know the definition of a snitch. you using this term makes you seem extremely ignorant.

You are a fool that obviously doesn't know their own rights in their own country. dumb asses like yourself is why we have so much police abuse today.

all citizens have the right not to talk to police. and there is absolutely nothing wrong with exercising this right at any time. if you think otherwise you are a fool. period.

i cant blame any one that doesnt want to talk to a police force that protects other criminals that attack citizens because they have a tin badge.

and you are the biggest hypocrite. i know for a fact none of the cowards on this site would come forward with any information if they knew that there was any possibility of a retaliation on them or their family. so please drink a cup of stfu.

All it takes is a phone call to any number of anonymous crime prevention numbers to tell the police where to look.

You are a coward and you have drank the American ghetto culture koolaid.

I don't really give a rat's ass about the black dude that was shot. He was just a low life scum bag and he had it coming. No loss.

But the young woman was a victim. Her only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time and she didn't deserve what happened to her.

Your way of thinking only perpetuates the problem.

Wow. Like I said. An idiot. Seriously? Over things like traffic stops compared to premeditated murder?

A snitch is someone who tells the truth to someone in a position of authority to right a wrong. How's that for a definition.

And you are still defending it.

Bad human being taking the side of murderers. I'm certainly not taking the side of bad cops. They should be reported by their officers and dealt with. Why are you taking the side of the killers of innocents?

Yes we are. He is choosing to be a prominent member of the Toronto Community. To advocate for the "6" as he puts it. And with that choice of advocacy and it's benefits also comes responsibilities to it. To be a good example. All he had to do was say I don't support the gang violence and please help catch these killers who would destroy innocent lives. That's it.

Most musicians when bad things happen at concerts and venues with their name on it issue statements of support to families and the community. Most will decry violence done.

Drake went to the Rogers cup.

Is he evil. No. But evil only thrives when good men stand by and do nothing. And that's what Drake, with his influence and power in this city did. Nothing.

Do nothing. Deserve nothing. He doesn't deserve to be a Raptors ambassador, or have any connection to the city. He abandoned it in its time of need.

See, it's not gangsta culture that is promoting snitch=stitch culture. It's the cops that are putting out all sorts of media telling kids not to report crimes.

Sure he has a right to remain silent. He also has the right to speak out against violence at his event.

If you think that the shooters in this case should be arrested then why are you opposed to public calls for witnesses?
