Whew ... the good and bad of losing three of four to the Red Sox.
Good ... rest of ALE did not have a good week either so Jays are still only a game out of both first and the wild card.
Bad ... Jays failed to take advantage of the losing week by the ALE, could have take over first !


Jays heading to Detroit for the weekend and the Tigers are struggling.

lets feel a little sorry for Boyd..it isn't like he demanded to be brought up before he was ready. He threw 2 good strikes to Betts to start the game, and then gave up a hit on an 0-2 pitch. The next hit was a weak seeing eye single....and you could almost sense from the stands that now he was in trouble and scared....and the rest is history.

Maybe he should do what his namesake did Oil Can Boyd pitched high (and I don't mean in the strike zone)...

Redmond or Hendriks to start next Tuesday?

As for the call..yup terrible on many counts including it looked like the catcher did not give DV a lane. Ironic that it was Gerry Davis, an experienced usually non controversial umpire

The Blue Jays have picked Felix Doubront and Ryan Tepera to fill the roster spots opened by their dismissing of Todd Redmond and Matt Boyd. Felix gets added to the 40-man roster in Redmond's place.

Felix, a lefty, was to start tonight for the Bisons, so he'd be available in long relief tonight, if needed (let's hope not). Doubront has a 2.44 ERA in 9 starts for the Bisons this season. He's thrown 48 innings, allowed 36 hits, 1 home run, 18 walks with 43 strikeouts. In his MLB career, he is 28-23 with a 4.78 ERA, in 102 games, 73 starts. He has 193 walks and 386 strikeouts in 438 innings. I figured we'd see Doubront at some point this season.

I had heard the Jays were thinking of using Doubront the next time the 'Boyd' spot in the rotation came around. I guess it would depend on whether they need him in relief before then. I am looking forward to seeing him pitch.

Ryan has a 0.44 ERA in Buffalo. He pitched 3 times, for the Bison, since his last demotion, 4.2 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. For the Jays, he's pitched in 12 games, 13 innings, 2.77 ERA, 10 hits, 3 home runs, 1 walk and 10 strikeouts. Glad to see him back. I hope he gets to stay for awhile, but since he has options, he'll be sent out at some point.

If you were wondering about Chad Jenkins, he threw 41 pitches on Wednesday, so wouldn't be able to give us innings if needed tonight.

This team needs some serious upgrades in the outfield , starting pitching and bullpen if they hope to make tthe post season this year.

Not physically, that I am aware of, he does seem to have a mental block when it comes to pitching away from the 'Dome'!

As far as pitching goes, Jays need at least a starter and a quality reliever and SOON! Been that way since the season started.
I don't think the prospects in AAA are as good as previously advertised, thus no trade to date as no body wants them!

It is frustrating as hell when the Jays do/did have a hot streak and not make a lot of headway!

Hope they fix the friggin' pitching soon, everything else at worst OK.

Since Devon Travis return, his bat is solid, but the defense seems suspect, at least that is my opinion.

Hutch actually battled pretty hard. Miggy got a single, which is not the worst thing that can happen when he is at the plate. Then Victor had a twelve pitch at bat and got a single. Then JD hit a line drive which Carrera almost made a hilite reel play on, but ended up dropping. And then the defence - incl Hutch - started to lose focus and throw the ball around. And suddenly there were 6 runs up. Compared to Boyd's disaster 2 nights ago, it wasn't a bad performance from Hutch.

Which makes absolutely no sense.

By most standards if the Jays make the playoffs it will be considered a successful season so the only other teams whose records/performance are relevant to the Jays are those rat's ass worthy 4 teams.

Utter stupidity to not consider the opposition, unless of course the real fun is to be had by complaining in the absence of perfection. Of course we want to be better but it has to be considered in the context of the competition.

BTW, thanks for agreeing that the Jays are pretty much on par with the rest of the AL East, deficiencies and all.

I really didn't understand how Hutch is the next coming of an injury plagued, mentally fragile, perennial underachiever. Isn't this just Hutch's 2nd full season?

Sometimes you watch an athlete play the game and the resemblence hits you. I watch Hutchison and see Morrow all over again. Hope I'm wrong.

The problem is not Martin.

The problem is Dickey who has been everything but the ace they traded for... since when has a pitcher needed a personal catcher for his own comfort? Does he need a butler and a maid, too? Maybe a personal substitute to pitch for him? :frusty:

The BJ's have have one #2 (Buehrle), two #4's (Hutch and Estrada), and one #12 (Dickey, who does not even qualify as a #5!) pitchers... sorely needing an ace and a #3. The #3 could be Sanchez but I think he would be more valuable as a reliever this year.

Like the past 2 years, the BJ's show encouraging flashes but are unable to sustain a reasonable level of consistency. They are 8 & 10 (and on their way to 8 & 11) since their streak...

I don't wish to jinx them, but unless something happens with the pitching very soon they will head into the ASG under .500 and, if so, could very well repeat the post-ASG funk from last year... unless they get a new manager who can blend their obvious talents together.

I agree that they are very frustrating to watch because, with 1 or 2 exceptions, they obviously do have the talent...

The alternative is to just watch for those games in which they do put it together and simply forget about the post-season. :Cry:

And BTW, don't count Boston out just yet...
