Hutch still 5-1 after giving up 8 runs in less than 3 innings his era took a real hit but his w/l remains unchanged. So much for putting a lot on the pitchers w/l record. era and whip much more effective way to determine their effectiveness.

You should inform the Cy voters of this mistake of theirs as it is usually one of the, if not the, most important factors in their voting.

They should know better.

As we always blame losses on Gibby, should we assume it was his brilliant management this time for the comeback?
Why just tonight? How about all his moves have been good enough to win 9 in a row. A genius move giving Todd Redmond that spot start a while back.

And don't forget the tremendous job Pete Walker (in spite of his lousy playing career:eyebrows:) has done in having the starters pitch so much better the last couple of weeks. Tonight notwithstanding, they've gone deep in almost every game.

This is like the most unbelievable Jays game I've ever followed in my life.
.
They had a very similar come back against Cincinnati last year. http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2014/06/20/blue_jays_stun_reds_with_nearrecord_comeback.html

I watched that game last year in almost disbelieve. I didn't get to watch last night's live as I was working. I did watch it as "jays game in 30 minutes" at like 2 am, and realized rob faulds was calling the game which made me want to slit my throat, and that was the half hour version. I wouldn't have been able to watch the whole thing with him calling the game.

BBL, ... during that inning ( and the rest of the game for that matter) kept wondering how Buck would have called it!!.....these guys are just out of their minds right now....RAD can keep it going today..

Who is "we"? Try not to paint us all with the same brush.

In baseball, the manager will always get to much credit when they win, and to much scrutiny when they loose. Baseball more than any other sport, the manager has least impact on the outcome of the game.

Nice. One sarcastic Gibby comment to his detractors and I stirred it up a bit.

By the way BBL. They say a manager has a direct effect on 8--10 games per year. That may seem small but it generally is the difference in making the playoffs.

Pedroia just hit a 97 MPH out of the park

No batter in the 1990's wouldve even come close to a fastball like that!!!!!
Randy Johnson gave up 183 home runs in MLB during the 1990's.
Are you seriously claiming that not one of those pitches were 97 (or faster) mph ?

You do know that it's easier to hit a faster pitch a long way than a slower one?
Speed of a pitch isn't the key factor for a pitcher, but rather, movement on that pitch.
I honestly dont know how fast his pitches were when he served up his homers.

Well, which is it?

I figured it was over.
What a comeback for a ninth win in a row ! A lot of the damage done before the Sox could even get one out.
When the Jays closed to within two or three I wonder how many older Red Sox fans said 'oh no it is '89 all over again'. :thumb:

I played poker last night. When I got there about 7:45 I said to put on the game. The guys said they turned it off because they were down 5-0 in the first.

Keeping in mind they were playing at the Fenway joke of a park against a team with a pitching coach as a manager yet with horrible pitching, I persisted. I was less of a believer at 8-1 down. I didn't pay much attention 'til I saw a couple of men on in the 7th, none out and now down 8-4. I dropped out of the hand and went to watch closer. Holy fucking shit. 9 runs in and no outs. We paused the poker game.

Anybody know what the MLB record would be for runs scored in an inning before an out is registered? I can't imagine it can be much higher, at least not since post WWII.

You keep on saying that but never back it up.

Most knowledgeable people in the game will tell you otherwise... managers in baseball are hugely responsible for what is going on between the ears of their players and baseball is one game in which what is happening between the ears is terribly influential on performance.

That is what Yogi Berra was saying with his famous quip: "90% of the game is half mental."

With all due respect to Donaldson and his plush number, Russell Martin is our MVP.

Do I need to elaborate?
