I have to admit, when the team chased and dragged Cola into left field, I thought perhaps they were going to group-shame him at the very scene of his many, many flubbed defensive plays....

... but then I saw they were smiling.
I was thinking "please don't get hurt...please don't get hurt..."

Estrada goes for the Jays tonight. Some of the Marlins have had success against him in the past.
Hand takes the mound for the first time against the Jays.

Oh yeah for those who are interested the draft starts today at 1:00.
Jays pick late. Lost their 18th(I think it was 18th) pick for signing Russell Martin, but get one back(29th) when Cabrera signed with the White Sox..

I think Sanchez is a huge talent, but a no-hitter in his first full year is perhaps asking a bit much

Just checked the score on my phone, 7-0 Jays in the second. Marlins are in a bad slump Jays should sweep these guys.

Jays win........again. No one else in the East is playing tonight so they gain 1/2 game. Closing in on the .500 mark. Need to keep winning and have the Yanks and Rays lose a few.:)

and where is Jennifer?.... her boy Muni is kicking ass and not a peep from her!!!!!

Didn't Doc come within 1 hit in the 9th of throwing a no-no in his first or second game?

The offence is hitting on all cylinders! Hope they don't run into a hot pitcher. All they need now is to win the close games.

Didn't the Jays win 11 in a row at one point last season?
I seem to recall something close in May of last season. Cannot say for sure if it got to 11.

... upon further review it was a nine gamer. It was the hi-lite of the season putting the Jays in first for awhile.

Buehrle vs Haren today.

Buehrle faces former team for first time since trade.
Haren tends to give up homers.
I like the Blue Jays chances.

It was on the last day of the season in 1998 and it was against basically the Toledo Mudhens (AAA) lineup of the Detroit Tigers. Higginson hit a home run off Halladay late in the game to ruin the potential no-no. I kept score of that game on tv. With only one hit for the AAA Tigers, it was relatively easy.

Yeah, I remember now. The Tigers started to freak out in the 8th and sub in their MLB players to avoid the no-no. Doc still came close.

Re Sanchez, I have to admit that I was thinking that there was a chance of a no-no against the Astros. There's a low average, strike out prone, power hitting team that is just waiting for some top rank finesse pitcher to pick them apart 27 times and get a no-no. Whether it's Sanchez or someone else. Have Houston gone up against King Felix yet this year?

No-no's involve incredible luck as well as skill. All those Texas leaguers and bloops that drop in a couple of times in a normal game have to fall right into gloves; the DP's have to be made perfectly; and it helps if a couple of your fielders come up with gems. And it helps if the batters are making contact w first pitch strikes to avoid those deep counts. It's not just the pitcher's skill.

I was at the game when Jimmy Key pitched an almost no-hitter against Frank Tanana at Exhibition Stadium. Some Tiger cunt ruined it in 9th inning (I think it was Trammel).

Aaahh....the good ole days.

Key lived in Burlington at the time, 3 blocks away from my house. He was known as being a bit of a cunt back then

I think several 300 game winners never pitched a no-hitter. Can you name 1?
Well, Nolan pitched a few. Of course in his case, maybe luck wasn't so much of a factor. :D

Off hand, I can't remember if last generation's HoF calibre pitchers tossed no-no's. Pedro? Randy Johnson? Shilling? IIRC, Doc tossed at least 2, 1 in the playoffs that he made look easy. IIRC, Clemens never pitched a no hitter. Boomer Wells famously pitched one. Boomer was a decent pitcher, but he must have been damned lucky to throw a no hitter that day!

Good night to make up ground. TB plays LAA; NYY play Washington; and Boston and O's battle it out for bottom spot.

Interesting...

Definition of a no-hitter: a game in which a pitcher (or pitchers) allows no hits during the entire course of a game, which consists of at least nine innings.

Of course, there could be fielding error(s)... or walks... or a hit batter... but a no-no is not necessarily a perfect game...

Definition of a perfect game: a game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and in which no opposing player reaches base.

There should be no DP's in a no-no... :eyebrows:

There have been 25 no hitters in which the opposing team did score... and even 2 no hitters that were lost!

Edit: I edited my post before I saw your post below, oagre...

Has anyone ever lost a no hitter because of walks and/or errors?

Perry
A no-no = a no hitter. No hits, but there can be walks, errors, passed balls, sacrifices, etc. And yes, no-hitters have been lost.
