Did a little background check on our latest hitting revelation. Colabello was born in Massachusetts but actually started playing baseball in Italy. His mother is from Rimini, and his father played for the local team.

First I was "What ?!" but upon review the ga-damn Red Sox rallied to win 7-4 scoring all seven runs in bottom of ninth..
However Tampa is leading 3-1 with Seattle coming to bat in bottom of ninth.

The 2 wildcard leaders going into todays game (KC and Texas) are not in AL East. KC beat Texas today and Jays are now 2.5 gms behind wildcard leader.

Because at the time if writing TB were not wildcard leaders, they are leading after winning today, and now Jays are 3 games behind WC leaders

Kawasaki gets the rally going with a leadoff ground rule double, I had a good feeling. Then Reyes brings him around with a single, steals second while Bautista was batting. This lead to the strangest play I saw in quite a while. Why did Altuve not take the pop up ... why the hell do I care. lol :thumb:
Everybody was safe, Reyes still on second and now Bautista on first which set up Coca-Colabello's heroics.

I am having a Coke now in celebration.

That was one of the craziest 9th innings I've ever seen. Well done, boys.

And, if I do the math correctly, the Beautiful Soda is about 10 games away from having enough at bats to qualify for the hitting leader board. Let's hope he keeps it up.

I have to admit, when the team chased and dragged Cola into left field, I thought perhaps they were going to group-shame him at the very scene of his many, many flubbed defensive plays....

... but then I saw they were smiling.

fantastic game today...and maybe we have the best offense in baseball...they are getting the best of closers...but still lots of concern.

I know Schultz throws hard...but no way should a man with his limited experience be pitching in the seventh with a one run lead...bring in Hendrix then or leave Loup in

Also, I was sitting in right field today and noticed something......Bautista is the one giving outfield directions...telling Cola to move in or over and even sending signals to Pillar. What does this mean? Goes to the theory that the players are running the team and don't respect the manager or the coaches.

I grimaced when our genius manager sent Kawasaki up to pinch hit...but the guy came through......and Reyes stealing significant bases and Bautista too.....one of the all time great innings

The reason (and I don't agree with it - it needs to be changed) that Schultz is charged with a blown save is that theoretically he could pitch the final 3 innings and get a save. In olden days, relievers like Gossage and Fingers and Reardon (Expos) would frequently come in during the seventh and eigth innings. If you pitch the last 3 innings - even in a blow out - you get a save. Pete Walker (my hero) once got a save for mopping up 3 innings of a 10-1 game.

Bautista is the most experienced outfielder by far. Normally, the CF calls the alignments; but Pillar telling JB what to do is silly.

Kawasaki is a decent clutch hitter, despite overall poor offensive numbers. He has often had excellent AB's in clutch situations. Goins OTOH is anything but clutch offensively. Not only is he a weak hitter, but he would buckle under pressure due to inexperience.

When Reyes set out for 3rd, that handed 2nd to Bautista automatically. Any throw to 2nd would leave home unguarded for Reyes to steal. So a double steal is an automatic in that situation, unless the tail runner is someone v slow like Navarro who could be nailed easily.

One of the coaches usually moves the outfielders. I will give you benefit of doubt on Kawasaki vs. Goins. You are also mostly right on the double steal...a good base runner like Bautista watches for when Reyes goes. I have seen where the guy on first doesnt pay attention and doesnt go...As Bautista went right away..drew no throw....

No problem, I have faith in Sanchez.

His mechanics are like Jim Palmer but the pitch arrives heavy like Juan Guzman/Duane Ward. Mind you this is the 1991 Guzman I'm referring to, after his shoulder injury he lost some of his edge but he showed surprising guile. If Guzman and Ward had fixed their delivery they would both be in the HOF by now.

Whomever said Sanchez is a twink please step forward. To quote Archie Bunker, "if that's the pitch of a twink".
