the guy was out of line but I don't think this is something that is worthy of being fired. The whole lot are class A douchers but so what. its his time not hydros. people make mistakes all the time in thier personal lives and if there is not spillover into the workplace then the incident should stay out of the workplace. has the guy been charged with a criminal offense? I think the guy should get a good lawyer and push back.
if he lawyers up , im sure his next potential employer would likely look at that as a reason not to hire him

At least Cognex company is doing the right thing, they've denounced FHRITP as being vulgar, but they will not fire Ryan Hart (he was the guy in the glasses)

and if he doesn't? his employment prospects probably aren't looking the greatest regardless of whether he pursues the matter with hydro.

people get a way with a lot at hydro/opg/similar employers - a lot. there are formal processes to go through when someone has problems at the workplace - warnings, suspensions etc. someone could take a shit on thier bosses desk and get a warning but if they make a disgusting and stupid comment on thier own time they get canned straight away. again, the guy deserves some reprimand but firing him is too much.

Most big companies have a Code of Ethics that all employees must sign off on.
These usually cover a wide range of behaviours and situations.
I'm sure Hydro One did a quick review of their policy before taking action to be sure they are legally within their rights to dismiss the guy.

No matter where you work or what you do in life, that label follows you everywhere you go 24/7, whether you like it or not.
So even if you're off the clock, you are still associated with your employer.

He was fired by Hydro One as much because of the bad social media publicity that was coming Hydro One's way by association. He was also an engineer responsible for our power grid and a manager leading a team of men and women. The expectations are much higher than if he was a roofer responsible for putting the shingles on straight at Fred's roofing. He lived by the social media sword and died by the social media sword.

Funny how that didnt apply to Justin Trudeau when he called a conservative a "piece of shit" during a parliament session ( google it, its on youtube somewhere).

Oh wait, he's a Liberal. Thats different

If this was an isolated incident the conversstion is very different.

I remember walking down a street after last call with a black female friend. Four drunken guys felt it was okay to say that they would fuck her..... even though she was black.

This is not an isolated incident that's called a Thursday for a woman.

The key is that these are things said by guys who think it is okay to do that. Domestic abuse and sexual assaults of women are real concerns and statistically significant. It is clear to me that there are still a lot of guys who think saying vulgar things to women, hitting them and ignoring consent are alpha male behaviours.

I think it was harsh for the guy to lose his job but within the rights of his employer to do so. I am sure they considered the legal ramifications or at the very least they considered the monetary loss vs good pr.

Being able to find situations where thr outcome was different proves nothing.

Did he say a sexist or racist remark?

Calling someone a piece of shit while inappropriate is not on the same level as a sexist or racist remark.

I thought you said six pages ago you were done.

Beta male always makes me laugh because it is not even used correctly.

Beta is the one most likely to replace the alpha.

Omega is the bottom.

I understand it is slang but i prefer slang that doesn't make me look like a moron.

Okay, so less offensive words are not a fireable offense. Is that what you're saying??

And who gets to decide the scale on whats more offensive and "less" offensive?? Is it the official Frankcastle scale of offensiveness we all should abide by??

And I think you're full of shit, Francastle. If I called your mom a piece of shit you'd be mad as hell (and rightfully so).

In fact I think you'd be MORE offended if we pulled a FHRITP prank on your mom or your sis

I did not say i would not be offended.

I said i would be less offended than if you used a racist term or sexist term like cunt.

Keep trying.

I would argue they are equally offensive.

Thing is the TFC guys werent even trying to be offensive, they were "trying" to be funny, which makes Trudeau's comments worse because his remark was intentionally offensive
