Marcus Stroman expected to miss entire 2015 season, torn A.C.L.
Shit. I thought he had a chance to be a 20 game winner this year.

I think Stroman is their best pitcher. This also probably eliminates the flexibility they had with Sanchez. The trickle down will affect the bullpen.

Major, major loss. The only saving grace as I see it is that it is not an arm/shoulder injury which may have impacted his career in the long term.

I think most agree that Gibbons is a way below average manager.....and then must ask why he is still employed. I know its just the first spring training game, but there he is looking totally nonchalant.

During his first term as manager...I thought his strength was knowing exactly when to pull a pitcher and who to bring in....now thats questionable.

We need an up and comer or maybe a recently retired player who went to the world series a few times. A Jason Veritek or that guy with the funny batting stance who got a lot of walks and played for the red sox (going crazy trying to remember his name). In short, a winner who wants to be in the world series. Keep Hale as bench coach to help with the moves.
I strongly-disagree.

The baseball manager has the smallest impact of any head coach on any major sports league. He doesn't give half time pep talks, he can't teach guys how to catch or throw, hit the ball, or to use the fundamentals they should have learned through the minor system.... that is not the manager's job.

His job is to create the lineup and to control the bullpen- a job Gibby has done well. A manager can only work with what he is given.

Gibby coached in the all-star game (chosen by his peer - I forget which manager... ) because of his strengths. I have never seen a respectable media guy criticize him. The only criticism I see is from some fans and I question their ability to accurately assess him since no one seems to comprehend his job and everyone seems to want a scapegoat.

I am a huge Gibby fan and it really irritates me when I see people use him as an excuse for failure beyond his control.

John Gibbons will be the scapegoat if the Jays don't have a strong start but that doesn't make it right. Nor will it be right for AA to lose his job of we don't make the post season after stocking up our entire system with strong arms that will set the team up for years to come....

So why didn't a major league team, other than the Jays ever offer him a the manager's job? Don't you find it odd that he wins 2 world series in his first gig as a manager, and after he is released by the jays no one offers him a managers job until the Jays hire him in desperation?

Gibbons does not excite me as a manager, but I wouldn't can him(yet) based on what he has done with this time around with the Jays. I don't think it mattered who the manager was the last two years the Jays weren't going anywhere.
I love Cito- I saw the Jays win the World Series live in '93 and was a huge fan when I was very young...

But Gaston does not have a reputation as a great manager.

He had great players.

I'm against putting Sanchez in the rotation. We need a closer out there. Nobody in our pen is capable of it.
Cecil is setup man at best. Definitely not closer stuff.

Come to think of it, as much as I love Russell Martin on our team. With all this Navarro fiasco, we should have invested the money on some pen guys. Navarro didn't do a bad job with our rotation or offence. Instead, we didn't really upgrade or add to our pen.

A front line catcher makes all the difference.

The Dunedin complex is like walking on landmines. I thought the Jays were moving to Clearwater, this latest disaster will give them incentive to do so.

Look at the number of pitchers in spring training. Our bullpen won't be a problem.

Sanchez should be a starter. I was against him starting until today but we need him now.

Cecil or delabar will close.

Our bullpen is not weak and investing in bullpen arms often turns out bad (ie. Nathan- Detroit last year).

Look at Castro, Jenkins, Estrada, Osuna.im not worried.

I just hope Sanchez and Norris can step up, (and even better: Santana)

Navarro would never get us someone who could replace STROMAN or a top bullpen guy. He is more valuable with us right now. (And he won't get to be a starting catcher elsewhere until An injury goes down elsewhere).

Jenn, i dunno about johan. His fastball prob tops at 87 mph. Im not against sanchez in the rotation. We dont have a shutdown guy in the pen. We know sanchez can strike guys out. Thats wut we want out of a closer.

Apparently we can't expect to see Santana in the majors before late May or June. They seem to think it will take him that long to get ready. If I understand his contract correctly HE can opt out at the end of April if he is NOT with the big club by then. Personally I hope Santana is patient enough to wait for an opportunity. If he is close to where he was he will help. I agree I am not sure the 87 mph fastball will suffice but then how hard does Buhrle throw?

buehrle is different. He relies on an assortment of pitches. He also cuts his fastball. Santana relies on his effective circle change up. In order for your change up to be effective, your fastball has to have a bit of juice or differential between fastball and change up.

I think we are on the same page here. If Santana can get his fast ball, with control to 89-91 range he should be fine. My recollection( and it ain't as good as it once was) is he is more of a finesse pitcher than a power pitcher.
