"I have great interest now that there is something to play for(or is that lose for ?).

I am sure there will be changes over the summer.

Kessel and Bozak ... I see it as a bit of both. Kessel is just not good in his own end.
I would not have a problem if they kept Bozak as a second line center(or third, fourth). Someone has to wear the uniforms next season."

I'll be very interested to see who they draft too, but I don't think the results of the remaining games will change the Leafs' odds much more than 1-2% either way. Who they draft will certainly have a big impact on their rebuilding plan.

There are so many question marks on this team, from management to coaching to players. The biggest uncertainty is whether or not Nonis will be replaced.

I suspect some of Shanahan's decisions (getting rid of all the tough guys, firing of Carlyle, etc.) were influenced by his analytic department. I don't think Burke would have followed the orders if he were the GM.

As of today, one-third of the NHL teams don't have an 18-goal scorer at centre. (Arz, Buf, Col, Edm, Min, NJ, NYR, OTT, Tor & Van). It's not a big deal. Hopefully the Leafs can drop into the bottom five teams in the final NHL standings and win the draft lottery to get first overall in the 2015 NHL draft. Washington and Chicago did that feat in the past and ended up with Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane, respectively.

This year's likely first overall pick, Connor McDavid, is definitely worth having a crummy season in 2014-15 to end up with. He's billed as the next Sidney Crosby. And yes, he's a centre...and a Leafs fan from Newmarket, ON.

So lose Leafs, lose!

What we learned most yesterday is that Phil maybe the real leader of this team .. How they expected to change the culture but still keep Phil and Dion last summer is beyond me ..

I like a guy who stands up for a teammate. We need a Mark Messier to lead this team.

if only he would do more of this. there is a definite lack of leadership on the team. no-one wants to take the lead from what I can see.

Why don't they do it on the ice instead of getting mad at fans ( stick gate ) and the media .. When other teams were mocking team Captain nobody came to his defense ... This team blames coaches, GM , fans and media but it is never their fault .

I once heard excuses are for losers and this team leads the league in excuses ...

Memo to Phil .. Dion in two cities now has lost the fan base and Phil this will be the second organization who wants to ship your ass out of here

Listen to the interview .. He blames the GM when defending Dion " it was Dion who built this team "
Maybe Phil the Trill was bashing the fact they got rid of the guy who brought himself and Dion Phaneuf to the Leafs in the first place.

The reason that guy got fired was he had a big mouth and the MLSE board were wimps who could not handle it.

In light of the dysfunction, in all levels of the organization, players, management, owners, still no one wants to leave. Almost no one. Clarkson couldn't wait to get here, then couldn't wait to get out of town. Not for everybody.

LOL.

Your post and my post add up to what I am saying . The main problem is Phil ( coach killer ) is the leader ...

I like Phil. He needs a better supporting cast. How much better would a guy like Patrick Kane do with Phil's mates, mamagement and media?

However Phil should'a pulled a "But he's my teammate. He's my captain." (Paraphrasing Terrell Owens."

Looking who the Leafs could draft at fifth.

I figure the top three to be, in order;
1. Connor McDavid C .... the dream.
2. Eichel C
3. Hanifin D

at fourth is where the guessing(and Leaf reality) begins in my opinion.

Lawson Crouse W, big physical winger who really helped his status at the World Juniors. Currently ranked fourth.
Dylan Strome C, comes in at fifth. This is the player I have been targeting since the Leafs collapse. He kept Erie going while McDavid was injured.

Rounding out the top 10.
Wereinsky D
Marner C, smallish
Zacha C, big Euro. Please no !
Barzal C
Provorov D

Realistically Strome should be the target. I hear the Leafs are in love with this guy. So they should be. 6'3 Centers with skill and can skate don't grow on trees.

Crouse scares the shit out of me. Great skater, high hockey IQ, questionable offensive upside. That's not good enough for a top 5 pick.

If Strome is gone by the time the Leafs pick, they should trade back. There will be teams that are high on Werenski, Provorov, Marner or Crouse that will pony up.

I hope scab Buffalo loses out in the draft lotto. I know, they are in the rules but they ain't hiding the fact of tanking on purpose to get 1st pick.
