Let's not put the heat on Shanahan, his intervention was tactical.

In order to compete he needs to build up his talent pool. The scouting staff has been replenished, Peddie's cuts have been reversed. He needs a solid core of 1st round picks to make the team competitive. I don't believe that William Nylander was a mistake, but the Leafs drafting record during the Peddie regime is abysmal. Give Shany time.
It hasn't worked in Edmonton why do you think it will happen with Toronto?

The Score is reporting that Nonis is off to Manchester to scout Richards now that the Kings have sent him down. On a side note the AHL will have a California division next season as 5 teams are moving out west.

I dont blame Shannahan

Its the idiots before him that made the mistakes

Nonnis has to go for Signing phaneuf for 7 years

MLSE has not made any playoff revenue 9 out of the last 10 years that is the only positive out of this

They have lost over 100 million in playoff revenue
Yes buy every other idiot in southern Ontario is still maxing out on MLSE mechandise that more than makes up for it.

Stop buying leaf branded junk, stop watching the games, and take your eyeballs away from their advertizers. What do you think Bell & Rogers bought the team for?

To some degree or other, most Canadian teams have some touch of the Leafs disease, even my Habs. None need a quality product to sell season tickets. Why do you think that there hasn't been a cup in Canada this century? Harold Ballard set the template, and everyone else has followed it to a degree.

Point I'm making is even if you have a bunch of top picks it doesn't mean you will end up with a good team. The Oilers have drafted Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Yakupov etc. all good young players but it hasn't helped build a good team.

Just watched Draft Day….why can't Nonis and Shanny pull that shit off!…
Blow this up!…Go balls deep and try to get someone, instead of patch working this thing!
Bernier isn't the Goalie of the future….guy has giving up some of the worst goals I've seen in the past 3 years than all my 29 years watching and playing hockey!…
There are the usual guys…Dion, Phil…turn those guys into picks and a few decent pieces and play for the next 3 years…others like Rielly, Kadri, Franson, Gardiner…etc
pick a few to build around and giv'em another 2 years and then if they aren't what you thought, drop them at the deadline!…

And that's how it's done!

Just like every newbie learns after terbing….quality and quantity are not the same. Sometimes it's better to save up and splurge than to spread your money around looking for potential and value.
Like every GM (or true terbite) that is the bait to the sport and the position…but after a few poor experiences (just like when you strike out a few times in a row on back page), the best solution is to get Sinful Sophia for 2 hrs and just reset!…

Yes most Canadian teams have some degree of Buds Lyme Disease. Some of it has to do with media pressure and TV ratings, it forces Canadian teams into poor decisions. In Edmonton nostalgia has bought MacTavish and Lowe more time than they actually deserve. In the Leafs case, between 2002 - 09, the poor decisions were intentional to maximize profit. Expediency trumped strategy.

Richard Peddie believes he deserves a place on Legends Row. Regardless of that, when Borje Salming's statue is unveiled it well be an emotional event for yours truly.

A quick Google search shows:

Kessel has a LNTC.
Phaneuf has a LNTC, he must submit a list of at least 10 teams he would accept a trade to.

Geez, I miss Capgeek.

And my previous point is, the good picks do nothing if you lack the coaching and training to develop them.

Buddy, The Leafs have been maximizing revenue at the expense of a quality team since, Ballard then Stavrou over-paid for the losers.

These teams are not charities, and I think what we see is the path of least resistance, building a quality franchise, rom scouting, to training to coaching to playing is hard.

I problem with Leafs fans as I see it is not the love of the team, but the acceptance of mediocrity. With all the problems with this core group that we've seen over the last few seasons with different coaches, everything will be rosy again if this team goes on a 7-3 or better run. The majority of fans will think a few tweaks will take the team to the promised land.

I believe the problem with this this team is, ironically, is that it is not as bad as it has shown so far this season. If they're really that bad, they'll have a good shot at a high pick in a pretty deep draft year and management will have no choice but to put it in a complete rebuild mode.

This team is still quite capable of another 7-3 or better run. As inconsistent as Bernier has shown, he is capable of putting a few great games together and with some luck of the puck bounce, this team can go on a mini run before reality sets in again. The end result will be another delusion for management and fans to believe that a few more tweaks are all thats needed.

Very true. This team is not as bad as it looks. They've proven, time after time, that they can compete. They're just mentally weak and lack leadership. The biggest problems are bad management, terrible scouting and dumb as stump fans willing to put up with this horse shit.
