Is it worth it to cancel Rogers and use Netflix?

Yes and no.

Their movie selection is ok but not the best. I am at a point where I have watched most of the good movies and now struggle to find a good movie to watch.

I keep both and just record on PVR the movies that come to rogers.

I find between sony unlimited video rental, rogers and Rogers on demand, netflix and youtube most of my movie needs are covered.

I don't think you should solely depend on netflix but it all depends on what you like to watch.

Is it worth it to cancel Rogers and use Netflix?

Other than movies, what is it like?

I was briefly on it over the holidays and noticed I could get Cosmos when I cannot get it on the net while you can get most science docs.

I was told if you get USA Netflix it is better and there is a way to fool Netflix to thinking you are in the USA

I like my Netflix, but I also like my shows. No sports on Netflix and shows aren't current. You might be able to get by getting rid of the movie package to have Netflix, but it depends on what else you like to watch.

The general consensus seems to be that you can get away with internet-only as long as you don't need kids shows and live sports. Everything else is very gettable. I would think even the kiddie stuff is practical to obtain.

Yes there are many ways free and paid to spoof your IP and make Netflix think you are in the US, UK, Australia etc...last time I tried this your Canadian user id should work on all netflix.

Don't really have experience with shows but if you google or look for apps it should tell you the content available.

Quality wise I am happy provided you have a fast enough connection.

Go to YouTube for instructions on how to change your settings to American.

In the subject line just type American Netflix on PS#, or whatever device you are using and watch the video with the most recent posting date as sometimes the codes change.

I got into a beef with Rogers about 2 years ago after they jacked my rates by 60 percent. (I had been paying about $95.00 a month for all the bells and whistles, including TMN, but apparently that was only for a year and after 1 year, they wanted $160'ish for me to continue. I protested and they offered to cut this or that to get the cost down, but in the end they were fucking me over, so I told them to shove it and cancelled after 16 years with Rogers)

Been using just Netflix ever since.

80 percent of what is on regular TV is fucking garbage.

HBO is going to be coming out with a streaming service (same as Net flix).

Don't know what the price will be, but I suspect it will be more than Netflix.

Combine HBO (when it comes out that is), Netflix, with an Antenna and you've got a pretty good combination for a fraction of the price of Rogers.

Agreed with you about Rogers, Bell etc. shafting everyone after the initial offer ends. The Regulatory Broadcast body should look into this absolute scams that are dangled to unsuspecting clients. However, the only credit I can give all these broadcasters is the sport coverage including English Soccer. The Internet does not have these options and so am stuck with Rogers. Netflix is okay for the price although their offers on recent new releases as far as movies go is pretty poor. If you more into TV shows then they are better than that. Recently have been watching a lot of lesbian movies online as some of them are quite erotic.

You can use this site to see what each country's Netflix carries http://www.moreflicks.com/

I ditched cable about 3 years back, I got myself an Android box added all the apps for movies, live streaming sports etc combined with Netflix and a service that changes your IP address I would recommend the same to anyone looking to ditch the monopoly of the cable/satellite companies.

Get an HD antenna. That will give you live TV for CBC, TVO, CTV, Omni. So you can get news and watch some live sports. They broadcast in HD these days.

Get Netflix.

The above is a replacement for "basic cable", you will always find something to watch but you won't get some of the premium content like the latest movies. It will cost you eight bucks a month instead of forty or whatever basic cable costs.

To extend that to better than premium cable service rent movies from Apple TV and Google Play to replace the premium content. You pay per movie but compare to what you used to pay Rogers it is cheaper with better selection, you can rent a lot for the hundred bucks a month you are saving, and only when Netflix doesn't have something. I find I rent three or four premium titles a month on top of what I get from Netflix.

If you are willing to do the proxy thing you can also use Hulu for TV, get better selection on Netflix, and add Amazon Prime to your premium rental selection.

If you are into sports you can also subscribe to stream games online.

Like Toronto Finest just said, Hola is what I use too. You can use it for other sites as well and switch it on and off with one click.

Click to download the add-on on the main page.

It shows up on your browser as a tiny flaming emotion, for my Mac, it's on the right side at the end of the web search bar.

It is quite convenient to switch back and forth between the Canadian and American Netflix. I watch both because sometimes the Canadian one offers content not shown in the States.

Haven't ventured into the British one yet.

Yes, I do.

I don't really turn on my TV, except maybe to watch the news in the morning and evenings. I watch the shows I like online, when I have the time.
The shows presently on TV that I enjoy I always miss because I'm either not home or too busy.

I could always hook up an HDMI cable if I really wanted the cinematic experience but I only ever do that when I have girlfriends over, now that I think about it.

I'm considering getting Apple TV and cancelling my television subscription all together actually.

You may want to consider that option if you would like to watch Netflix on your TV, without the constant HDMI hassle.
