I thought the police said her cell phone and ID was stolen?
you might get a call from the robbers now trying to blackmail you into giving them some money or they drop a dime on you to your Family or S/O
And BTW...how do you know YOU contacted her????????

These robberies and/or assaults happen all the time, maybe daily in the GTA. Could be under the new law this girl felt safe to call the police, and we now see it in the news. I'm not generally happy with the new law, but I do like the part that makes it so the girls are not seen as criminals.
I agree 100%.

The new law (i) makes it harder for escorts to screen clients. (ii) it makes it harder for escorts to find clients so they may be pressured to take chances on clients whom they would not normally accommodate.
Tell me how ???, the lack of clients ?? Or advertising, last I saw advertising on Bp is still in full swing. For the time being !!

This is preaching to the choir but any suggestion that C-36 could impact sexual assault or that the advertising services is should be suspended because of one incident makes no sense. There have been people using ads to commit home invasion, rape, etc, etc. Remember the guy that got murdered when he tried to sell his truck on line ? I don't remember an effort to close down personal ads. There have been women raped who are real estate agents, personal nurses, visiting night clubs, answering the door for service men, etc, etc.

In Canada in 2012 there were almost 22,000 reported sexual assaults and according to the police crime units - a recognition that most are not reported. So why is this one case pointed out as worth writing a repressive law ?

They should remove the yellow pages, newspaper want ads and close down public transit to protect all the women who ride on it.

Are you for fucking real? So everytime an escort is hurt/robbed/raped/murdered from here on in, blame it on C-36?

This shit has UNFORTUNATELY been going on for time immemorial, right under everyone's fucking noses. Every day. But many wanted to ignore the ugly/under-belly side of the sex trade until now, when they can use it to further their anti government crusade.

^^^^^THIS^^^^
Feel so bad about it. It may has nothing to do with C-36. This happens so often unfortunately. But the argument about this Bill has been emphasizing the adverse effect on us by using notably negative words frequently such as "attacking", "abusing", "exploring", etc which could remind some dark minds to adventure adversely. I really hope the public can be quiet. We don't care about politics, we have to survive. No society can eliminate this industry unless it is the day of world ending. Nature is nature and grass is grass, it still sprouts and grows whatever, an earthquake, a tsunami or a volcano eruption. But girls must be alert and safe.

O
I agree.

At the same rate, NOBODY should be subject to this kind of violence. The Conservatives' answer is that this woman should never have been doing this to begin with. I think the correct answer is that we need a legal framework that doesn't push prostitution into the fringes of society where the sex workers are easy targets.
I think if push comes to shove, if it is a Conservatives government at the time when Bill C36 hits the SCC, then any talk of prostitutes working in unsafe conditions resulting in death or physical injury will result in prostitution being made illegal. By then it will be shown just how much of the 20 million was used to " rescue fallen women". The Conservatives will put the onus on the prostitutes to show why they chose this line of work and to accept responsibility for their actions. The old laws were actually quite pragmatic in retrospect. Perhaps a Liberal or small c conservative government might use parts of the old laws after a future ruling comes from the SCC.

The new law (i) makes it harder for escorts to screen clients. (ii) it makes it harder for escorts to find clients so they may be pressured to take chances on clients whom they would not normally accommodate. So yes, unfortunately with c36 now in full swing we are likely to see more of these violent attacks on sex trade workers.
Interesting point!

C-36 does put SPs more at risk as it makes communication between escort and client more difficult. But the biggest problem, one that could very well have directly led to this outcome, is that both sides of the industry have not been decriminalized and regulated properly.
