These robberies and/or assaults happen all the time, maybe daily in the GTA. Could be under the new law this girl felt safe to call the police, and we now see it in the news. I'm not generally happy with the new law, but I do like the part that makes it so the girls are not seen as criminals.

At the same rate, NOBODY should be subject to this kind of violence. The Conservatives' answer is that this woman should never have been doing this to begin with. I think the correct answer is that we need a legal framework that doesn't push prostitution into the fringes of society where the sex workers are easy targets.

Assault and robbery were always a serious crime, and should've been reported to the police before, but maybe due to ignorance of the law or contact info of certain/key police officers that assisted SPs, it wasn't.

"ignorance of the law" or "lack of contact info"; whatever. Many escorts had the mistaken belief that the big bad cops would arrest them, even though they were reporting robbery/assault. Now that fear has been removed.

In this lady's case I doubt it mattered one way or the other. She was violently beaten/raped and needed help.

I agree, don't know that the reporting of this crime relates to C36, more likely was reported because of how serious the assault was. or the assault could have been reported because of all the girls coming out in the Jian Ghomeshi assault case. We will likely never know.

Not all girls want to work for someone else, in a brothel, MP, etc, as they like the freedom of working on their own and/or keeping all the money. Also not all girls can make the cut to work for someone else. If the girl can collect $60 per half, there is little money available for phone staff and manager.

There will always be independent SPs that will get robbed/attacked etc. as a matter of fact even agency girls will ... This has nothing to do with the law and if she can get people to protect her or not .. (ii) it makes it harder for escorts to find clients so they may be pressured to take chances on clients whom they would not normally accommodate. So yes, unfortunately with c36 now in full swing we are likely to see more of these violent attacks on sex trade workers.

Some implement very strict boundaries and/or invest a bit of time corresponding/verifying prior to booking appts. Others not so much and will even book with whomever happens to simply text them; Often double booking, ensuring a revolving door so long as they're booked solid.

Sex workers are the perfect targets for people that want to take advantage of others on the fringes. The aim of the old laws being struck down was to prevent shit like this.
