I would think, probably not... if dollar amounts were equal between Toronto and elsewhere, depending on the state he signs in there could be a decent bottom line tax incentive to jump ship... and despite his and his agent's denials the turf could play a role. Assuming a 4 year deal he will be 34 when it expires so he would have at least one further contract to sign if his production does not fall off the map. The additional wear and tear of playing on turf for 80-90ish games a year (Rogers Center + Tampa away games) , especially the way he lumbers around has to factor in to personal planning....... but if the Jays offer more than the competition over the tax disadvantage than money probably talks!
I'ld hate to see this guy go.
He's one of the best pure hitters I've ever seen. In a Jays uniform at least.

And it appears Tori Hunter just resigned with the Twinkles. One less outfielder and spot available.

Markakis and the Oreos apparently aren't close to a deal either. Getting more and more interesting leading up to the winter meetings.

Tori's getting well beyond his bbd. Might be just as well the Jays didn't bite.

Three players on the Blue Jays' 40-man roster were not tendered contracts today, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman. Outfielders John Mayberry Jr. and Andy Dirks, as well as first baseman Justin Smoak are now free agents and can sign with any team (including re-signing with the Blue Jays)

According to MLB Trade Rumors' salary arbitration projection model, the three players were projected to earn a combined $6.5 million in 2015. The non-tender move allows for the Blue Jays to gain around that much in payroll flexibility, as well as open up three more spots on the 40-man roster, which stands at just 35 members right now.

It is important to note that the Blue Jays may wish to re-sign one or more of the non-tendered players at a salary figure lower than what the club thinks they will get in arbitration. Basically, the club may want to keep the player, but just not for as much (of course, when J.P. Arencibia was non-tendered last year, it was pretty clear that he was not about to re-sign).

Four other Blue Jays who are arbitration eligible were tendered contracts:

Pitcher Ma r co Estrada (projected $4.7 million)
Third baseman Josh Donaldson (projected $4.5 million)
Pitcher Brett Cecil (projected $2.6 million)
Infielder Danny Valencia (projected $1.7 million)

Those four players will be eligible to exchange salary proposals with the Blue Jays and can either settle on a deal by themselves or be assigned a salary figure by an arbitrator at a hearing. The Blue Jays have not entered into arbitration with any player since reliever Bill Risley in 1997.

WTF??!! They trade a .300 hitter (Lind) for a nobody (Smoak) and then let Smoak become a free agent?! So they just threw Lind away, instead of getting value!

The plan may be to resign him for less than the arbitration would give him. Let's wait and see what else AA has up his sleeve. He may have a deal in place already and is just going through the process.

Not senility... I think you are getting too much head and your brains are being sucked out through your cock!

Though, in the end(!), it may come down to one and the same thing.

Yeah, ol' Gibby needs to go. No idea what AA sees in him, but I also have no idea who would be better for us? I actually liked Farrell which I know is sacrilege in these parts. Gibby is too much of a "friend" to the players, need someone who's more authoritative and is a better thinker.

Lefty J.A Happ has reportedly been traded to the Seattle Mariners for left-handed hitting Michael Saunders in a move that must be considered a win for Toronto. The deal almost certainly signals that the team is out of the Melky Cabrera sweepstakes and are content with Saunders as the replacement. Jayson Stark broke the news: Saunders is a 28-year-old from Victoria, British Columbia who was drafted by the Mariners in the 11th round of the 2004 draft. After having a horrid start to his major league career from 2009-2011, the 6'4" outfielder turned it around and has been worth 2.1, 1.3, and 1.9 WAR in the past three years. He spent most of his time last season in right field, while he split duties in 2013 between left field and centre field. His defensive numbers don't blow you away mainly due to poor performances in centre bringing down his UZR totals, so he is certainly suited for a corner outfield spot.

Saunders' service time currently sits at 4.138 years and since he just barely missed the super two cutoff a few years ago, he is only eligible for arbitration this year for the second time which brings down his expected price tag. He is projected to earn $2.9 million this year, which is a steal for the value he is expected to provide.

There is a legitimate injury concern with Saunders though.

http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/...e-michael-saunders-from-mariners-for-j-a-happ

The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly addressed their glaring hole in left field Wednesday evening, acquiring Michael Saunders from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for left-hander J.A. Happ, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark.

Saunders, a British Columbia native, is set to take over in left field for Melky Cabrera, who's increasingly likely to sign elsewhere as a free agent after two seasons with the Blue Jays. Though Saunders compiled 5.3 wins WAR with a 111 OPS+ over the last three seasons, his relationship with the Mariners reportedly turned sour after general manager Jack Zduriencik chided his inability to stay healthy following the 2014 campaign.

Happ's departure also creates a vacancy in the rotation that should allow top prospect Aaron Sanchez to transition back into a starting role after spending the second half of the 2014 season in Toronto's bullpen. Sanchez, the 34th overall selection in the 2010 draft, fashioned a 1.09 ERA with a 0.70 WHIP over 33 relief appearances last season but spent the majority of his minor league career as a starter.

Saunders, 28, batted .273 last season in 78 games for the Seattle Mariners with 11 doubles, eight home runs, 34 RBI and a .341 on-base percentage. The 6-4, 225 lb. left-handed hitter is a native of Victoria, British Columbia and was drafted by the Mariners in the 11th round of the 2004 draft. In parts of six seasons with Mariners he has a career batting average of .231 in 553 games with 82 doubles, 14 triples and 51 home runs with 182 RBI.

It's amazing isn't it? Umpire Dale Scott announces he is gay and married. Yet, a few short years ago another umpire called Roberto Alomar a "fucking faggot" and it was Robby who got punished.

He got punished because he spit on the umpire.

A few short years? Try 18.

Hirschbeck & Alomar have forgiven each other and are friends, and have worked together to raise funds for research into the disease that killed Hirschbeck's son.
Maybe it's time for you to let it go as well.
