Bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will do everything I can in the next election to see that this vile regime of sycophants and toadies is defeated and that they never again darken the halls of power.

Come fallsguy, you saw this coming months ago, are you really surprised?

While it was obviously a forgone conclusion the bill would be passed, for some reason I really thought that somehow common sense would prevail. Guess not.

If the conservatives stay in power and anti porn bill will be coming for sure
I doubt it.

Joy Smith introduced a porn blocking bill last year similar to the one they have in the UK.

I think she was laughed out of the house of commons.

You think conservatives don't watch porn? Please...

Suburbs of Philly, PA.
I saw that too on Twitter that assent will be given today at 5. I'm coming up from the U.S. next week for vacation. Is it going to still be legal to hobby?

The argument Piragoff was making in front of the Senate Justice committee, is that the sellers deriving benefits from providing their own services are immune to prosecution; they're still criminals however.

According to Piragoff, the conjunction of:

286.2 (1) Everyone who receives a financial or other material benefit, knowing that it is obtained by or derived directly or indirectly from the commission of an offence under subsection 286.1(1), is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than 10 years

and

286.5 (1) No person shall be prosecuted for

(a) an offence under section 286.2 if the benefit is derived from the provision of their own sexual services; or

http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Pub=Bill&Doc=C-36&File=4

should not be interpreted as meaning that someone selling their own sexual services, is not a criminal.

I hear ya, but prostitutes were not considered criminals for selling except for other peripheral activities before this Bill, and those previously incriminating laws surrounding the activity of selling (such as public solicitation, keeping a bawdy house, or living off the avails) were struck down as they infringed on the security of the person.

I therefore submit that receiving a material benefit is no less different than the previous, incriminating laws surrounding the act of selling, and can be challenged on the grounds that sex workers are forced to work in unsafe conditions to ensure they get paid.

Not after Royal Assent, but IMHO and personal opinion, enforcement won't happen that fast, if it ever does.

Going to a bodyrub parlor is not illegal under c36.
I beg to differ (based on the Background Document and existing case law on what constitutes a sexual service), although I can't see the Feds enforcing the letter of the law or forcing municipalities to close down BR parlors.

I will still go to your MP if the status quo remains the same, practically-speaking.

Thank you!! I'm a proud lil lady about this. Sen Jaffer is an amazing woman!
I'm glad she read it (when did she?). It's an excellent letter and I think many here are proud of your attempt to illuminate the Senate Chamber.

Purchasing sexual services is illegal under c36, visiting a bodyrub is not illegal.

Thank you! She read it when I sent it to her in Sept. We've been in contact ever since. I'm not sure how the community feels.

I beg to differ MPAsquared. They mentioned going after massage parlours about 5 times including yesterday. Swan said police will target massage parlours and escorts agencies as most are fronts for the provision of sexual services. Massage parlours are sitting ducks IMO. Luckily U are in Toronto which has more tolerant police but here in Barrie they raided all the massage parlours a couple weeks ago I can't imagine what they will be like when this bill passes.

There is a big difference between an unlicensed massage parlor & a licensed bodyrub parlor.

On behalf of community members - I want you to know we are PROUD of you and extremely grateful for your hard work and commitment.

Our industry needs heroes, and role models to break the old stereotypes and create a new image that reflects reality.

Thank you! :clap2:

Bodyrubs are specifically prohibited in Barrie by the city's zoning bylaws both in retail locations and as a home based business.

Yes, excellent letter. Of course it had no effect on this gov't but it might down the road. You have to keep in mind that for most of these Cons they would be very uncomfortable with you success story. They would rather you were a drugged out addict looking for your latest trick to supply your drug habit. It fits in with their scenario that only bad girls and "fallen women" on the margins of society take part in the sex trade, and that you should be punished for what you are doing. Of course they are wrong, and you've shown them up for that. Hypocrites!
Liars!!
