Wouldn't Tory be worse for the C 36 crackdown, or would Chow the man hating feminist be worse? Either way I could have seen the Fords being the most lenient with it.
What you don't think a lot of Tory's "elitist" friends visit SP's? If people are going to put him in with that crowd fine. I defy you to name a bigger demographic for pooning than the financial one.

I hate conservative, but Tory in theory is stil better than Ford...
. . . so I want Malika Fantasy.

Can we run this election all over again?

You know who will get my vote.

It was a choice between "meh", "fucking awful", and "more ineffective bumbling sideshow". Seems Toronto had the wisdom to go with "fucking awful". Ummm.... yay?

Bah Tory will be a self serving in-effective bastard like all the others, I hope I'm wrong but we're talking about politicians, its the stuff they're made of.

I think if you actually knew the guy personally, you'd feel a lot differently.

He certainly has fucked up his unblemished record of losing every election in which he campaigns..

On the other hand: kudos for putting failure in the rear view mirror.

And all it took was participating in an election where most people would rather vote for Ebola than either of the other two front runners.

This is me to a T. By the end, I didn't think Olivia had a real shot at it, but I couldn't bring myself to vote for Tory. He's way better than having another Ford in office, but the vote was far closer than I'd thought it was going to be.

Congrats to all the candidates. Very few people enter politics for the money. In fact some actually give up lucative careers to pursue public service.

Unfortunately, they usually service the public in much the same way a bull "services" a cow.

I'm more concerned that ford kept his $100k + seat in his riding. Even tho council will shove him into the back like a fussy toddler, he will continue to suckle at the gravy train trough without ever neededing to contribute anything meaningful. Just like the 10 yrs before he became mayor

When they're not ineffective, we call them dictators; democracy is about debate and compromise and thus is inherently inefficient, limiting its leaders to less than their best. And—fortunately, as we've seen with Rob—to better than their worst.

As for being self-serving, that is the very essence of our free-enterprise system.

We get the crap politicians we deserve because, unless there's some scandal—or a pothole on our street—we go to sleep the day after the votes are counted, waking up only to sling blame and demand more for less.

Who would want such a job?

Least bad of a handful of terrible candidates.
Handful! When did over sixty 'Other' candidates count as a handful?

One of the many things we gotta fix is the system that welcomes such get-in-the way participants who can't even post a sign or get any other attention and thus makes a real, meaningful, fair campaign all but impossible.

We should note that Tory got thousands more votes than Rob, who frequently bragged about getting more votes than anyone before him.

Whether or not those were votes to keep the losers out—like the anti-Smitherman vote in 2010—by Rob's own measure, Tory's more the people's choice than Rob could ever claim.

Democracy is a terrible system but still better than all the alternatives. Was it Winston Churchill who said that?

Think was higher voter turnout this year. Tory only received 40% of the votes, compared to Rob Ford's 47% in 2010. Many more people voted against Tory than for him.

He gets the credit for it. I think the point is that democracy is just as bad as we make it. Same with the leaders we pick.

You have to respect a guy (even just a bit) that has the balls (or perhaps the stupidity) to kept trying to get into office. Time will tell if he learned anything each time he lost.
