My focus is on the game, not the packaging.

Game play is the same or better with Rogers. They have murdered the rest of the broadcast.

Not just the same anymore.
Just saw it for the first time .. Don't know if I hate it cause it's different or hate it cause it is just bad ... I think they sportsnet it too much and what made HNIC so special cause it had it's own indentity .. Stroumboulopoulos role doesn't do it for me ... They seem to much trying to be cool and funny and it seems scripted ...

Hahaha peter puck !

I feel bad for Ron MaClean. He was CBC and HNIC was great with his narrating. Word on the street is he hates his hometown hockey gig along with the reduced salary. As an early 30's male, Strombo is not conducive to hockey, he's a hipster !
that being said, I usually take breaks during the intermission anyway

That right there!

That's exactly what I felt, and said with a friend last Sat. I thought I was on the wrong channel at first, and couldn't figure would what was with the low profile leather seats, and 'intimate' setting for that heart to heart talk.

Kept me interested for 60sec, then went online to watch stupid videos.com..lol
Stroumboulopoulo role reminds me when Monday night Football tried Dennis Miller for a season ... Stroumboulopoulo first gig was with FAN 1430 back in the day but when I see him he doesn't scream out sports to me ..

Don't know if this is an example of ageism hoping to attract a younger demographic. My guess is MacClean is lucky to still have a job. And that he was given the hometown gig to appease longtime HNIC viewers.

As soon as I heard Stroumboulopoulos associated with HNIC I said to myself 'no, will not work'.
So far I do not think I am wrong and it appears several of us are in agreement.

I understand what they want, get someone younger to attract new, younger viewers, but Stroumboulopoulos is not the answer.
MacLean is in his mid-50s, maybe it is time to look for someone younger, but put him back in the one chair for a couple more years.

I think Ron Maclean is to HNIC as Jerry Howarth is to the Blue Jays ... Would ESPN remove Chris Berman for a young hip guy ?

I think the whole thing has gone to shit. For starters, they should have ponied up to keep beloved anthem that we're all so used to. As dumb as that sounds, there was just something about sitting in front of the t.v at 6:59 on Saturday night waiting for that anthem to start.

There biggest audience is the older generation whole love to see Maclean and Cherry, and Maclean hosting the show. Now that they've screwed that up, they pissed off their loyal fans, and probably have done much to gain new ones.

I understand that change is inevitable, but they pulled the trigger way to early.

Totally agree. HNIC sucks!

Like everything Rogers does, it sucks. On the bright side I no longer have any attachment to HNIC so I will not waste as much time watching.
I'll stick to watching hockey highlight shows 10-15 minutes after they have started so I can fast forward through the commercials and miss all the other crappy/cheesy Rogers commercials.

I'm glad TSN still has most of their hockey personnel and shows because they screwed with hockey so much at Rogers/Sportsnet that I am not enjoying Sportsnet's usual hockey shows as much as I have in the past either.

I like to compare this to chicken wings.
Wings are delicious and the essence of simplicity. Deep fry, toss with a mix of Frank's hot sauce, serve with blue cheese, carrot sticks and celery. Simple, delicious, and the subject of cravings.
BUT, the chi-chi chef types decided they could do it better. So now you get brined, marinated, injected, infused, breaded, baked, smoked, slathered wings with apricot glaze and a side of mango salsa. They look great, and may even taste good, but it's not what I want.
HNIC was also simple and delicious in it's own way.
Show some cute pee wees from some place on the prairie, tapping their sticks on the ice to intro Ron M, who sets the scene, maybe runs a sappy vignette about a player. First intermission is Coach's Corner, second is hot stove, then on to game two, which I never make it through because I'm too freakin old to stay awake that long.

Then some programming geeks decided they could do it better. Now you've got a set that consumes more kw/h than some third world countries, and looks like the people should be wearing Star Trek uniforms, a light up floor, little of Ron M, and the addition of Mr. Mango Salsa himself , George Stromboli whatever-his-name-is.
It looks great, it may even be entertaining to some, but it's not what I want.

Strombo should be the new host of Q and bring back Ron McLean as host of HNIC. Wonder if the ratings drop because of Strombo.

The original HNIC theme song I miss.

Strombo was hired to host a show on CNN to attract younger hipster audience, that didn't work. Strombo is not cool anymore.

I like this idea, you need a hockey guy in that role. Strombo adds nothing other than fist bumps and being the traffic cop.

I am open to moving some the women to the front panel of HNIC, like Cassie Campbell. All the women are on ice/sideline reporters.
