The British Pound is a broke currency. As well as the Euro and every other fiat currency. They should do what Canada did prior to that loser Banking twat Trudeau giving us the Bank of Canada. Let the Gov't issue the currency and get rid of the Bank of England. The Bank of England has nothing backing the currency. Let the Bank of Scotland issue the currency. Back it by the offshore oil and turn the estimated trillion dollars left in it's oil reserves and back it with Gold, Silver and a basket of commodities. Then issue the money thru the Treasury. Not the Bank of England. Put the money into large, medium, and small business in Scotland. Develop an Economy outside of Britain and Europe. Trust me. There will be no shortage of buyers for the oil. And the bonus is you don't have to be associated with a bunch of inbred freaks that like to molest children !

BS

I think we had this discussion elsewhere. Isn't it archaic to back currency with a precious metal? Shouldn't a currency be backed my a nation's economy? Look at Japan. It has no natural resources.

Huh?
Scotland has the Scottish pound, always has had it.
People get this idea because a few private banks (e.g, the Bank of Scotland and the Royal Bank of Scotland) have the power to issue their own currency. However, they are backed by the UK pound. If you look closely at the notes, you will see that they state the bank will exchange them for Bank of England notes on demand. At one time, the same was true in Canada.

Scotland at 5.2 million population is about the same as Demark at 5.6 million but the Danes are much noiser and they layed claim to Hans Island.

  1. Hans Island

  1. Hans Island is a small, uninhabited barren knoll measuring 1.3 km², 1,290 metres long and 1,199 metres wide, located in the centre of the Kennedy Channel of Nares Strait—the strait that separates ... Wikipedia

Hans island has always been danish. Why do you think it is called Hans Island, not Archibald Island?

Sorry Danish-Canadian, but this is deathly serious.
Why, it's only Scotland... in fact it's only the UK - if this was China we should worry....

Could be wrong,...but I think Aard's concern is the fragile economic state in the part of Europe, and the domino effect that could arise.

John Oliver did a very humorous story on Scotland independence:

Get rid of the Central Bank, wouldn't that leave the British Isles vulnerable to the next George Soros that comes along?

There are two problems with Scottish Independence. Geographic isolation and the lack of financial reserves from North Sea oil that Norway currently enjoy.

Alex Salmond has been a far better salesman than Alistair Darling. The troubling part is that David Cameron is following in Jean Chretien's footsteps, if Scotland votes Yes it will be a permanent stain on his legacy. Darling is no Stephane Dion and it's not clear if Gordon Brown made enough of an impact to play the Trudeau role.

By that logic the Strait of Juan de Fuca in B.C. should belong to Spain, or at least Greece since Juan de Fuca (Ioánnis Phokás) was born in Greece.

Hans island is geographically closer to Canada than it is to Denmark, it is patrolled by Arctic Rangers several times a year. It is all about oil rights and territory, that is why Harper was all exited about the find of the missing Franklin Expedition ship.

If danmand is pissed off that Denmark will miss out, I suggest he pack a few open faced herring sandwiches and take his sleeping bag to camp out and spend the winter on Hans Island.

It would be big mistake for Scotland to separate from the UK, instantly they would be out of NATO and have to apply to be in the EU. Scotland wants the UK to take all the nuclear weapons and submarine bases out of Scotland, this would make them useless to NATO. Application to the EU will take a minimum of 5 years if not much more ( 10-15 ) because it take unanimous consent of all EU nations for a new member to be accepted.

That is a major part of it, lust look at what has been happening to the British markets over the past few days.

Then there are the defense and political issues, as just one if Great Britain is reduced to the Kingdom of England and Northern Island, can the current British seat on the U.N. Security Council continue to be justified?

Further, there is the whole Québec issue: http://news.yahoo.com/separatists-quebec-scotland-share-lessons-051558412.html
