I think it will not happen. Britain will never give sovereignty association to Scotland like Quebec wanted from Canada. If Scotland cut themselves loose. There will be economic uncertainty for decades to come. Wrong thing to do at the wrong time to do it.

Just imagine the price of Scotch could go up! They may start hoarding it to keep their population supplied!

Hope you like Rye!

Do I think it wise, do I want it to happen - NO. However, that is different from do I believe pro-separation will win, the answer to that is it is too close to call.

The sheep in Scotland are slowly, yet easily being convinced independence is in their best interests. My bet is they will foolishly vote for separation to the detriment of all.

I doubt it will pass, I do think they could take an Irish approach to attracting business and distance themselves from some of the issues England is having....

Sadly, these things have a habit of not passing, due to blatant pay offs. Any peoples who consider themselves separate, should obviously have the right to self determination, and the english should be helping them achieve it instead of trying to prevent it.

The people of Scotland already have far more self-determination than the people of England, the Scottish Parliament already exercises all of the domestic powers in Scotland as if it were independent. Further, Scotland has all along maintained its own legal, ecclesiastical and heraldic structures all of these being terms of the Act of Union.

England in fact has much less autonomy in that Scottish M.P.'s and members of the House of Lords vote on matters which pertain solely to English domestic matters.

Scotland finally has a chance to get rid of the pigs sucking on it's hind tit. Britain is broke, corrupt, and the source of much of the suffering in this World. Leaving Britain will be painful initially. But sticking with the anvil that is Britain and the Euro would be the best thing that could happen to the Scot's. Take your offshore oil reserves and start to make them work for Scotland ! Not the Royals and the City of London Banks. Besides, with all the sick paedophile charges taking place in Britain right now I'd distance myself from those scum immediately.

The yes forces are banking on North Sea oil production, which is now in slow but inexorable decline, to underpin the economy. Haven't followed the debate closely but I gather it could go either way.

This sums it up nicely (above comment). In fact Gordon Brown, Prime Minister of the UK 2007 - 2010 was Scottish.
It's a head vs heart decision. Economically, Scots presently get the better of the deal. In fact, England subsidizes Scotland. Scotland enjoys the best of both worlds.
As far as the 'heart' decision - think Braveheart.

Keep it mind this is not a new movement - it has always been the discussion. The only thing different now is that it suddenly looked like the vote could be close. Hence the international attention.

I am of the no persuassion.

they are still mad at the 1700 takeover as the scottish parliment was bribed

one huge economic factor is they would still have the British pound

this means they cannot print money and Scotland could go bankrupt

Scotland has prospered very well

This is exactly backward. Scotland receives a net inflow of payments i.e. the rest of the U.K. subsidizes Scotland. Further, Alexander Salmond is engaged in pipe dreams on several levels when he expects North Sea oil to keep the Scottish economy afloat 1) oil production is failing in the North Sea Field and within several decades will be practically non-existent. 2) he further assumes that all of the oil field will be Scottish, something that neutral legal advisers have told him is unlikely to be the case (some of the field will be English).

Huh?
Scotland has the Scottish pound, always has had it.
Not at present it uses the GB Pound.

Alexander Salmond proposes in practical terms to have Scotland in the position of El Salvador a State using another State's currency and with absolutely no influence over the economic policies of that other State. The Bank of England has already said that an independent Scotland would have no say in English monetary policy.

The British Pound is a broke currency. As well as the Euro and every other fiat currency. They should do what Canada did prior to that loser Banking twat Trudeau giving us the Bank of Canada. Let the Gov't issue the currency and get rid of the Bank of England. The Bank of England has nothing backing the currency. Let the Bank of Scotland issue the currency. Back it by the offshore oil and turn the estimated trillion dollars left in it's oil reserves and back it with Gold, Silver and a basket of commodities. Then issue the money thru the Treasury. Not the Bank of England. Put the money into large, medium, and small business in Scotland. Develop an Economy outside of Britain and Europe. Trust me. There will be no shortage of buyers for the oil. And the bonus is you don't have to be associated with a bunch of inbred freaks that like to molest children !
