And with Mark Cohon leaving the CFL next spring too, I wonder if he might be in the mix here.

It is a worst case scenario but I don't expect Peddie to return. he was the Teacher's Pet, they wanted profit margins and he gave them that. In return TOTPP gave him loyalty and used Leafs logos as toilet paper.

Nor do I believe Cohon will get the job. He may if all he had to deal was the Leafs. With two other franchises, MLSE will want a global presence like Leiweke.

As for Sundin, even if they had traded him the outcome would be the same given Peddie's agenda.

Well, he did hold high level jobs with MLB International and the NBA, and there is that McDonald's connection he has (not much more global than that lol)

Leiweke is gone as of June 30 2015. Did you honestly expect a redneck entity like MLSE to change for the better?
I had hoped, but wasn't optimistic. MLSE is a gong show. Tanenbaum, Rogers and Bell are pretty much the worst combination of owners/personalities/competitors you could draw up - so much dysfunction.

Reading Grange's piece yesterday just made me sad, mostly in terms of the extreme ignorance from the comments section from Leafs fans. TL is exactly what the hockey club needed. At least he hired Shanahan, the first person who recognizes that recycling Toronto-area players in their 30s indefinitely may not be the best way to build a foundation for long-term success.

All three franchises are far weaker for losing him.

For now .... wait and see.
Here we are in late August, the 23rd to be specific, and Toronto still has $360,000 in cap space.

Patience Georgie.
There is approximately 45 days until the puck drops on the regular season.

And just to be clear ... my point was ... what was my point ? ...............

ah yes ... a forward will be dropped, temporarily giving the team cap space and a defenseman will be added using up the cap space.

Oh dear Craigers, you're cute when you try to be sarcastic.

You stated that Toronto had ~$1.7M in cap space, back peddled on that, said they had ~$1M in cap space, then said wait, something will happen......Okay, Craigie, something will most assuredly happen.
Know what? It hasn't happened yet.

I have not backed off the FACT that the Leafs have, in theory if you like, approximately one mil in Cap space to use on a D-man.

Really enjoy your post but it Oct 6th and

The Leafs announced some of its final roster cuts Monday.

Frazer McLaren, Colton

are cut and won't be on the big club ... I think the GM had to do this cause of the coaches love affair with goons ...

I didn't want either player on the team.

As things stand now, the Maple Leafs are still $246,333 over the cap.
Perhaps the Wizard of Rust can foresee the future and tell us how Toronto will become cap compliant.

Oh TERB's little ray of Sunshine strikes again.

Really that is all you got left ?

The Leafs are over the Cap ... woooo ... this will be tough !

Let me see ...
15 forwards
7 D-men
2 goalies

24 total ... NHL rosters are 23 ... hmmm how might they get under the Cap ?
