Reyes you dumb fuck, why are you sliding head first into 2nd when you have a bad shoulder to begin with??! :frusty:
I wish there was a manager with enough balls to order his players to never use the head-first slide. It doesn't even get the runner into the base any faster than the feet-first slide, and it has so many injury risks.

I wonder if Sanchez will be converted to a starter eventually, or will he remain a reliever
He is and will be a starter. He is on limited innings. Maybe 24 left. Next season they will look to put him in the rotation.

yes, but I have a sense of humour. My real original point was that Hutch might have been the best bait for a good trade. Other teams wanted Stroman and/or Sanchez.....and I agree that they should not have been traded.
Happ may end up the odd man out for next year. He could be worth something on the market.

Stroman didnt have his good stuff today.

And Redmond is turning into a rather effective middle-reliever

these guys like to do things the hard way.The next 2 weeks will tell the tale for this season.
Starting on Tuesday. Hope we "O"bliterate the visitors. Gotta, gotta take at least 2 of 3. I think the Jays may have been looking past Houston.

They could have won the game early. It is sooo frustrating watching them pile up the LOB's and GIDP's.

And with a lead Marcus may have been able to pitch differently, more relaxed and aggressive instead of nibbling.

Well I am and always will be a Toronto Blue Jays fan but this roller coaster ride they are taking us on is taking it's toll.
Losing three of four to Houston is ... disappointing. My version was three wins, maybe the sweep, tied or maybe ahead of Baltimore .... instead now even a sweep of the Orioles will not put us in first.

Hope Alex A's complacency did not send the wrong message to the team! Instead of a vote of confidence it may have come across as this simply not being the year.

I disagree with you. Played for 15 years at a very high level ( senior A and Niagara Falls Pirates New York Pen league ) The head first slide was designed for the runner to slide away from the bag so the defender would have to chase the body for the tag. Runners would use one hand as a decoy then when the defender would reach for the tag the runner would pull the hand away and put the other hand on the bag, at least that's how it was designed, over the years players have put there own spin on it.

It was started because players where tearing there ankles and knee ligament when there cleats would get stuck in the ground or under the bag.

They don't manufacture runs by using the small ball IMO. Guys with speed, Goes, Kawasaki, Johnson, ( all tho he's hurt ) they are using it but not enough in my opinion.
An example: runners on 3rd & 2nd less than two out, why not bunt on a contact play in between the mound and first base aiming towards the right side of second, this will bring in the runner from 3rd move the other runner to 3rd from 2nd and who knows where the ball will end up because you are causing a rushed throw, even if the batter is out you still have a runner on third.

Like I stated before I think the Jay's where looking ahead to the Orioles. After the Orioles it won't get any easier for them, the Tigers at home, Mariners, White Soxes, Brewers on the road.

Lets hope for the best and the Orioles start losing.

Would you guys please stop fucking whining :p

Only 3.5 gms out of first place, still leading WC race by 1.5 games. And all this with 2 months left to play.
Orioles are punching above their weight, they'll go on a losing streak soon. And the Yankees are stagnating.

I like our chances, let the Jays sit comfy where they are right now, and then make moves in late August or September

I like your thought patterns.

For one, I got caught up in all the hype last year only to be let down. This year I'm very cautious and judgemental. As they say; show me the money first.

Trades ...
In August the player must pass through waivers, but can play in playoffs.
However in September the player after passing through waivers will not be allowed to play in playoffs for new team.

On top of that, if two or more teams in the same league put in a claim on a waived player, the team with the worse record will win the exclusive right to negotiate a trade. So as it stands now, if an AL player is put on waivers...Cleveland, KC, SEA, TB..and the Yankees would have waiver priority over that player versus the Jays. The Yanks are (in) famous for playing the "blocking" game a..usually with the Red Sox. So they claim somebody just so another team can't get them. The risk is the team that puts the player on waivers just hands them to you and you are on the hook for their salary (see Alex Rios to the White Sox).

It gets for complicated for the Jays if an NL player is put on waivers. All the NL teams have waiver claim priority over AL teams. Guys with high price contracts pass waivers unclaimed regularly then all bets are off, anyone can sign them. It would make sense for the contenders to go after the impact but higher priced guys but this year I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Sox put in claims on players like Cole Hamels (if he gets waived) so that they can jumpstart the rebuild mode before the offseason. They just shed a lot of salary in the past week.

I guess we are all speechless after tonight's debacle. Orioles clearly a better team. Can Hutch save the season tomorrow?

Oh and why is it that those of us at the game aren't told when something happens.....Lawrie leaves game - why? Would it hurt to put news on the jumbotron? We are the paying customers.

Isn't that part of the charm of being at the game.

You're right, it wouldn't hurt. Does this happen, though, anywhere? Don't think they do it in hockey.
