I was young when I started waiting for them... but watching the BJ's has greatly aged me and made my hair turn gray!

He is an accountant that can't count... and what is a bean counter doing managing an MLB team anyways?

Perry
Beeston happens to be an accountant too btw.

Rios is batting .300 this year, albeit w little power. And was always a good fielder w a strong arm.

And as luck would have it, Rios does not have the Jays on his limited no trade list... because he is still on the contract he signed with them! A number of players in the market have the Jays on their no trade lists... even Marlon Byrd of the Phils who is only allowed to veto trades to 4 teams... any one want to hazard to guess who else is on Marlon's losers list?

Here
What I am thinking about right now is this:

AA has been here for [in October] 5 years.

He said then that he had a 5 year plan and he has done a lot of horse trading. If you go through the list of players he has traded for and the net benefit to the BJ's [for you lazy ones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Anthopoulos,] then he has mostly wound up with duds.

When it comes to evaluating talent, he has no talent; he is a number cruncher. He's no Pat Gillick!

And that is why, barring a miracle, it is time to say "see you next year!"

And I will gladly eat my words if they are still playing in October.

Byrd doesn't want to come to Toronto? Good, he is 37 and would be a number 4 outfielder with the Jays, Same thing with Rios, crap find some players we can get that will be of use without wasting anymore prospect talent. Without sending Stroman and/ or Sanchez there isn't much interest in what the Jays have to offer unless they start to rid themselves of some of the big salaries, Dickey Burhle Reyes Bautista EE Melky and that probably ain't happening. So the Jays probably won't do much if anything but hope everyone gets healthy and gets on a roll.

The Yanks gave up Yangeris Solarte and a minor league pitcher for Headley. Headley could be a free agent by season end. Solarte looked real good in the first two months this season and then he faded. I think Solarte homered off the Jays during the Yanks series sweep of the Jays in the Bronx earlier this summer. My point is that do the Jays have any infielders major league ready like Solarte? I don't think so. Goins coming up? He's here till Tomlinson's back from maternity leave. More desperations from AA with the latest move on Sanchez. I understand that Sanchez was 0-8 in the minor before the move!

Solarte looked VERY good at the beginning of the season. I wonder what the Yanks thought of his upside before they dealt him.

In the 6
Jays up 7-1.

So if they win tonight they'll have won 3 of their last 4. Lets try to stay positive, people

Indeed, as it sits (Jays, Yankees still playing, Baltimore just getting underway), Toronto is 2 1/2 games out of the playoffs.

Relax folks, it's a loooooooooooong season.

great bounce back game tonight...everyone contributed except Francisco (why is he playing over Johnson?). Bug blunder bringing Casey in with a 6 run lead. His fastball is down to 88 from 91.....probably from weight loss. I would have let Loup finish and give Casey another day off.

Jays win ... yay !

Oh, Orioles, Yankees and Rays also won.
Orioles are 3-2, five games into their West Coast trip, the Jays were 0-5.

Jays remain 4 full games back of Baltimore.

In a 162 game season the Jays just played game 101 last night.
The season is sliding by and the (non waiver)trade deadline is rapidly approaching.

I have very little confidence in Anthopoulos to right the ship, based on his track record so far.
I believe I said I would take a wait and see approach with AA when he was hired ... well I have waited and do not like him as the Jays GM(would love him as GM of another ALE team).

As a member said earlier, 'I will gladly eat my words if the Jays are still playing baseball in October'.

I keep looking at LA Angels ... forgetting there are two WC spots now.

Seattle lost to the Mets last night.

Jays are tied with NNY in both ALE and AL WC race.

At this time last year the Jays were 10 1/2 out of the WC. This year? They're 2 1/2 behind the 2nd WC leader - SEA
Yanks may not have enough pitchings to keep up so it could come down to the Jays and whoever in the West to fight for the last playoffs spot. Again, if I stayed positive with the Jays chances to get in for the dance.

Hate to be an armchair QB's but just imagine if the Jays landed Robinson Cano at 2B and Abreu @ 1B during the off season. AA and the Jays would be talking about adding a veteran pitcher for the WS instead of trying to plugging holes left right and centre!

Well that sounds nice in theory but current management will probably never sign players of that calibre in their prime as free agents. Why? They have an oft stated policy of not signing players for more than 5 year deals. Cano has a 10 year deal. Abreu is 6. Not to mention they did not have the cash on hand to sign Santana during Spring traning... where would the $40mln come from for Cano/Abreu?
