Arencibia is back in town... thankfully in the visitors clubhouse.
He did the Jays in tonight, must have felt good to knock off the team that gave up on him. And he just got called up after posting some good numbers at AAA.

I think that is the key, right there!

It says tons about AA's performance as GM over the past 5 years...

From AA to MLB the BJ's are thin in developed talent.

But I would also ask the question what team is deep enough that they can lose their starting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd basemen. As well as a star outfielder and best DH all at the same time. And bring players up to competantly replace all of them?

Look at texas to see how that works out.

June 6 1944 ... D-day
The Allied Forces invaded Europe to stop the German advance. It was a turning point of WW2.
We 'celebrate' the anniversary every year on the date.

June 6 2014 ... D-day .
All was well. Another year past and we had our memorials.

Summer had arrived after a nasty winter.
The kids were counting down the days to June 27th.
The LA Kings were up 1-0 on NY Rangers in the NHL playoffs.
The first game of the 2014 World Cup of Soccer was less then a week away.

The Blue Jays were looking good at 14 games over 500
If the Jays did not win the ALE, certainly they will not collapse so fast ... we will have meaningful games in September.

In a sort of 'sports play' the 2014 MLB season went like WW2.
Apparently the Blue Jays are playing the part of the Axis.
The Jays surprised the ALE by jumping out to a big lead.
The Orioles and Yankees, playing the Allies, were caught off guard.
They did rally and began their assault on June 6.

July 19 2014 ... 43 days later Jays are 1 over 500, dropping fast, no hope in sight
The Orioles are four games up and the Yankees and caught up.

It seems only a matter of time before the Jays surrender officially, likely before Sept 2.

I'm expecting things to get better when their big hitters return. That shouldn't be too long now. The current line-up will be regarded by other teams as much softer right now.

Either I am too late or I am too early but I have one foot off the Jay's bandwagon:eyebrows:
It will be a huge embarrasment if they can't even stay ahead of the Yankees by season end. Because the Yankees have lost two of their best SP for the year. (Tanaka maybe coming back but Sabbathia is gone!)
Right now,we can't think about challenging first place. Jays can't even hold on to second place! As I mentioned it would be a shame!

Lewis has a bit of a point. Rasmus bunted for a single with 2 out and nobody on and then he didnt try to steal second. That means they need 2 more hits to score him or the nexy guy has to jack one out. However, if it was practice so maybe he does it in future leading off an inning....and I think more guys should be doing that against the shift.

Lewis has a bit of a point ? WTF ?
Rasmus' first concern is to get on base. He, nor does any other player, has no obligation to do what the other team/pitcher wants him to do.

Lewis has no point what so ever(at least in my opinion).

First of all, a double or a triple would have also scored him. With two outs, you run on contact if not a full count and you run on the throw otherwise.

Secondly, Lewis barked at him right after the bunt and not after "he did not attempt to steal". Just because a player "does not steal on the first 2 pitches" does not mean anything. It may be he's still reading the pitchers movements. Also, there's nothing wrong with hoping for a double, a triple, a home run, an error or 2, at least 2 hits to score.

Finally, a 2-0 lead in the fifth is nowhere near safe. It wasn't 15-0.

Why oh why did Toronto not score after the bunt!?!?! It would have been entertaining seeing Lewis rolling on the ground crying, kicking his arms and legs and complaining about a guy raising his average to .223 or so...

I said a bit of a point. But yes, it also wasn't right for him to whine about it. I stand by my point that it was not a good idea to bunt in that situation. Try it leading off an inning to get something going.

Did not make sense the first time you said it and it is just as nuts the second time ... maybe more crazy.
Maybe you do not full understand the object of pro sports. I believe you are thinking like a 'Little Leaguer'.
In the pros it is anything and everything to win, within the rules. Getting on base in any way at any time, no outs, one or two outs is always the right thing to do.

Ironhead has it right. The batters goal is to get on base. They had the shift on and he took what they gave him.
Baseball etiquette, for what it is worth is applied when one team is considered to have a safe lead. 2-0 in the 5th is not considered by anyone, that knows the game, a safe lead. With this years Jays team I'm not sure there is a safe lead.

Lewis has no point what so ever(at least in my opinion).
Lewis is just a friggin cry baby. If he was upset at the bunt, he would have gone ballistic with a successful steal.

Given the long slide and the injuries, we're still only three games out in mid July. With even a modest turn around in fortune, the playoffs are well in reach. 3 games w Boston at Rogers, starting tonight.
