was wondering if anyone here is a member of Costco and can tell me how diligently they check the card? I want to go and my buddy is going to lend me his card, but says he can't recall how diligent they check the card. (either when entering or when you go to pay)

From my experience. They don't check the picture on the card at all when you enter Costco. They do check the picture on the card when you are cashing out, but not sure how diligent they are. They don't check the picture on the card at all when you buy gas.

Easier to go with your friend to Costco when you want to buy something, or get a membership

They also check the name on the card against the credit card - if that's your method of payment.

okay, thanks guys. Sounds a bit to risky that I'll get to the cash and look like a fool if they call me out on it...lol.

I use to be a member, but I find that there are no real bargains at Costco that you could not get elsewhere without a membership. You get a across the board 10-15% discount, but you have to buy in bulk. You can get better deals if you check the flyers every week. The drugstore is a little cheaper than elsewhere, you do not need a membership to buy at the drugstore or buy food at the lunch counter.

Their gas prices are good, if you can get to one conveniently at a time when it isn't crazy busy the gas savings take a big bite out of the membership. The other thing is if you are shopping for a big ticket item like a TV, that one purchase can justify the membership.

But yeah otherwise it doesn't beat your local grocery if you buy what is on sale, and Costco has pretty limited selection.

you won't be alone. Happens all the time. They seem to check pretty diligently. A friend of mine used to lend her card to her mom. They look fairly similar, especially in the grainy, small pic on the card. But, after getting caught twice, they put a flag on her card and now a supervisor has to override the cash every time she goes.

Ive rarely noticed bargains. Usually, only as in-store specials that aren't advertised and only used to clear discontinued items. The value for me is that their stuff is usually high quality (especially food items) and their amazing return policy (which I've taken advantage of unscrupulously. Lol)

They take the card and swipe, they don't bother checking photo id. They are too busy with long line up's at the cash. When you enter you simply flash the card, too many people walking in to stop and compare photo.

Enjoy!!

Ive also heard that if you walk in with a prescription from your Dr you dont need a card because of Government regulations. But you cant buy anything but your presription, good way to get in and check it out and if Costco is for you.

Yeah, Costco gas is usually 3 or 4 cents a liter cheaper right at the pump vs. a frequent flyer card you need to accumulate a credit at say Husky. Food quality is good but there is no way I can use a bag of 24 dinner rolls even if I put them in the freezer they go stale. Actually Wal-Mart has good prices and produce is fresh plus you can buy smaller one person quantities.

We are supposed to get a Costco gas bar here in London, but they are taking their sweet damn time about it. When it does finally open it will be interesting to see if I decide it's worth the hassle for cheap gas. The Flying J truck stop used to be cheaper gas here and it was always insanely busy, but it was also open 24 hours, so if I was going by later at night, I could gas up with no hassle. I doubt the Costco gas station will be open all hours.

Also, depending on what particular rewards programs a person likes to use, if you get a Costco Amex card, you can easily earn enough rebate to cover your membership each year.

I guess that means that TP is lying.

Or Skinflute goes into a different Costco than TP's friend. Or goes at a busier time of day where the clerks are less likely to check the cards as close. As for walking in, they never look at mine very close either. I have the old red and white OHIP card I could probably flash that as I walk by and not be questioned.

The doctor put me on high blood pressure meds, he told me that the long term effects of HBP will do a job on people in the long term if they do not control it. So I get my drugs at Costco, it also gives me a chance to check out what is there. If you need to buy stuff, why not just go with your buddy?

I got the Char Griller from Lowes in the USA. The Green Egg has an unglazed interior, after a while it is a real mess from grease splatters. Costco also has vacu packed smoked meat at a good price.

Reuben Sandwiches : Thinly sliced and chopped up smoked meat between two pieces of rye bread, one slice of Swiss cheese and on the other side a slice of cheddar. A sprinkling of sauerkraut, Finish on the paninni press.

My costco card picture looks nothing like me anymore and they don't even touch my debit or credit card do certainly don't compare it.
Take your buddy's card and shop til you drop!
My pic is also super faded, they never said nothing. They never look. My friend gave their card to his son , that apparently looked very nervous at the counter they found out, took the card until the parent came in ..thats all.
The only reason I have the card is because its given to me as a birthday present, I would never dish out 60 bucks to shop there. The lineup at the gas pumps are crazy, I don't wait. In many items No Frills has better prices...

You can shop at Costco using their gift card without being a member.

My dads a Costco member, every Christmas he gives me a prepaid gift card as a present.
