The off season is upon us Leaf fans. Once again we and our team are on the outside looking in.

Carlyle got a two year extension, now a total of three seasons(to summer '17).
Will he be here the full three seasons or will he be gone as soon as next year when Babcock is schedule to become a 'free agent coach' ? Of course that is if the Leaf wanted to do that and could persuade him to come here.
I am very curious to see who will end up as Carlyle assistants.
Whether/how much Carlyle has a say in the hiring's.

On the players side there is a lot to do there as well.
Who to resign ?
Who do they let go ? either just let them go or via trade.

I still believe Reimer is gone.
I would like to see Gunnarsson in another uniform next season.
That is just to name two and then the other way ... which players do the Leafs bring in ?

The biggest change I'd like to see is their "style" of play. I'd like to see a better forechecking game, not to spend so much time in their own zone, a better break out system, and insertion of more hard nose type players who are willing to pay the price to win one on one battles. This team has a few young and skilled players, but too many soft players at the same time. Replacing Kulemin and McClement with Komaov and Ott would add much needed grit and truculence.

I presume they got rid of the assistant coaches because they Ron Wilson's picks and since they run the practices they weren't happy with how they got the players to buy into the game plan. They kept Carlyle because the coach they really want isn't available at the moment.

Reimer is likely gone and I'd be happy if they got rid of Phaneuf and Clarkson who at 5.25 Mil. had 11 points and was a -14 in 60 games.

First off, they need better defence. Their shots against per game was the worst in the entire NHL. For example, they allowed 820 more SOG than NJ did. You can't blame your goaltending when they're being peppered like that. On the other hand, they were 14th. in goals per game which is middle of the pack.

If you're spending too much time in your own zone, your defence doesn't have the ability to gain puck control and get it out. The result is you end up in 30th. in shots against per game.

I agree- they need to focus on defence- too many rebounds not being taken care by the defence- you can't let the other team have two or three chances-. The goalies have nothing to be ashamed of- they are the victims of the defence squad and phaneuf leads the pack. If he was paid 2 million per year- I could understand it but at his salary it's nuts

No one is taking Phaneuf at that coin & term.

Time to get rid of Kadri and Gardiner while they have some value. It ain't gonna happen here for these two. Maybe offer Gardiner and the 8th pick to Edmonton for the 3rd and take Bennett, Reinhart or Dal Colle. I'm sure the prospect of re-uniting college buddies Shultz and Gardiner would have some appeal to the Oilers.

Calgary would say no to a stajan-phaneuf deal if the leafs offered dion back. But at least the leafs got 3 playoffs wins in the Dion tenure, and leafs fans we're inspired by phameuf's IQ on and off the ice.

when your cap is mostly used for offensive players it's hard to focus on defense ..

I'd give Kadri another year or two. 20 G and 30 A last season. He's got good speed and plays with grit. Mind you he was also a -11. Still, I'd like to see if he can improve.

As an outsider, I am confused why many passionate fans want to get rid of kadri. While I make no effort to watch most of their games, the numbers he had just two years ago were great. Seems like he earned another chance.

It's time for some outside-the-box thinking. Since both teams need a so-called "culture change" what about Kessel and Phaneuf to Washington for Ovechkin and Green?

I do not think it is a good idea ... especially if change for the sake of change.

no

NO FUCKING WAY !

Absolutely not !

I have a policy, never trade for a Russian star. NEVER !
I do not trust Ovechkin.

I prefer Kessel and Phaneuf anyhow.

What's wrong with the Leafs?

Clarkson is worth $ 5.15 Million and Dominic Moore wasn't good enough to be a Leaf.

Because his ego is bigger than his talent. How many years are we going to wait for him to become the player he thinks, and says, he is? He may very well turn into something in another market but in Toronto he thinks he's a big star already. Hell he wanted Tavares money last year. His talent is not even in the same universe as Tavares.
