Spartacus by far, he sure didn't get paid like athletes of today, he had no choice in entreating the people of those days in the coliseum . If the legend
is true, he is by far the best athlete, even though it was ancient history.

first let me say I love the pic. So simple yet probably one of best pics I have seen in my time on terb.

is there a modern day athlete that you feel would deserve the best athlete award?

I know I will get chewed up and spit out for this one and I will admit he is not the greatest of all time but I have to give some props to Mike Tyson. I don't think anyone has been as feared as he was in the history of sports. For the record I'm not talking about ear biting Mike Tyson. I'm talking about Tyson between age 20-25. That guy was able to instill fear that hit right down to your spine.

He was a punk thug who pummelled a bunch of nobodies and was glorified by his hometown New York media.

Last time I looked, fear and canabilism were not considered athletic traits.

Not a hockey fan and am not into stats so I cannot comment on Wayne but for the sake of discussion I do know that Don Hutson also was statistically dominant based on docs I have watched on NFL Network. Whether he was more/less statistically dominant than Wayne I have no idea but if we are not discriminating by era Hutson was certainly STATISTICALLY dominant.
If statistical domination is an important criterion, Michael Schumacher deserves to be on everyone's list.

Sure, fine by me.

I don't watch enough auto-racing so not knowledgeable enough to nominate anyone from the sport.

Mike Tyson NEVER beat any great heavyweight that was in their prime.
