Great idea coz that's never gotten a bunch of voters in deep shit before...I'd vote for anyone but FORD!!!
He was quite adept at hitting a beer bong and a crack pipe simultaneously..... a natural! Please explain what Ford had accomplished before being elected mayor.
Chow was a great councillor. I lived I her ward for awhile and she was constantly present, involved in everything, dealing with any minor issue that came up, resolving complaints, helping people deal with the city. She was very hard working. Very active. He was a much better councillor than Chow was although she didn't set a particularly high standard. At least he didn't take up a subsidized housing space that could have been used for someone that needed it - regardless of whether she and Jack paid a little extra (that is a really tired excuse/rationalization BTW Art).
Careful there fuji......you just copied the Mayors resume.......Chow was a great councillor. I lived I her ward for awhile and she was constantly present, involved in everything, dealing with any minor issue that came up, resolving complaints, helping people deal with the city. She was very hard working. Very active.
Not a left/right thing either. Now I am in McConnell's ward and I have never seen her doing anything. If you contact her all you ever get back is a form letter, sometimes not even, whereas Chow would frequently come out to see you.
I theory similar politics, but just not the same work ethic.
Actually Chow is still more active around here as an MP than McConnell is as a councillor. Which actually shows how pathetic McConnell is.
I think you are talking out of your ass because you don't like her politics. You are just that stupidly partisan.
The opposite is also true.
Aint dat da trufe!Toronto just loves to shoot themselves in the foot in regards to mayors.
So Ford can't be brought up in your precious thread? Whatever.Try to focus, there's plenty of threads on Ford.
Ford isn't qualified either. He's mayor, what's your problem? On what basis? How do you think she is qualified?
Actually, you just disagree with her. Welcome to democracy.I'm sure she is kind hearted etc but FUCK ME, her manner of speech makes me think she is a five year old harelip suffering from Downs Syndrome.
And on the issues that I have heard her speak on, she was remarkably, but honestly, incorrect on the underlying facts on which she based her heartfelt opinion.
She would be worse than Ford. If that is possible.
Cool. Democracy is like that.I would vote for Ford before I ever voted for Chow.
No, you're dead wrong. You're dead wrong.
She's a socialist and Rob Ford is a Conservative. But you lefties like to paint an extreme picture of him.
But of course your partial point doesn't make the argument you present - they paid market rent, and living in public housing while paying market rent is not playing the system in any way.I was saying so partially as a matter of fact, because they DID live in public housing... then, after they got caught, they came up with all the other crap about fair market value/ equivalency payments etc... (As a point of reference, I myself lived in the GTA during that same time, with my girlfriend at the time, and somehow we scraped enough $$ together to pay for a basement apartment... so ya, its a point of contention... )
And partially with tongue planted firmly in cheek, because this all DID happened 20+ years ago... same with Ford's family's (or is it families?) alleged involvement with marijuana.
As for Olivia as Mayor...
That's the kind of statement that gets you the kind of credibility you deserve.Please...she makes Adam Vaughn look like a Conservative...
Well, of course it depends what you mean by socialist, and what you mean by fascist. The way the Ford crowd use the word socialist, that's the way the Chow crowd use fascist. It's all fair.Carling, it's okay to say that Olivia Chow is a socialist. That's not the same as calling Ford a Fascist IMHO. (To some degree, us Canadians are all socialists).
I agree with this. To think I now remember Lastman fondly...Chow will make a better mayor. There is one thing she does well, that Ford can't do to save his life and it makes all the difference.
Chow can work with others to form a consensus and translate that into a workable and effective coalition.
She would develop policies that have the practical support of the great majority on council. This would mean two things:
1. Moderates on council would force her to moderate, and she would happily compromise with them to get a consensus
2. Stuff will actually get done
Left wing or right wing matters a lot less than being able to work with people and get the job done.
Lastman was another person with that skill. He was able to get everybody agreeing and stuff just got done. He had goofy ideas and was a raging embarrassment, but the city business got taken care of because he was a master at building a consensus.
