no she's a liberal ... please the cons are the ones calling Obama a kenyan muslim socialist nazi... cons are the extreme in this equation...

Wrong again! She's an NDPer. Who cares about Obama, but I re-iterate that Ford isn't a Fascist like you say.

I believe that when they first moved in they paid whatever rent was asked. Their decision to move there was supposedly based on demonstrating solidarity with "ordinary folk." Within a year or so, I believe, the Toronto Star ran an article questioning appropriateness of someone at their salary level enjoying the benefit of CMHC subsidy. They immediately responded by voluntarily topping the amount and continuing to live there as the only co-op members paying market value, if I recall correctly.

Some interesting observations:

• Toronto Star apparently questions the actions and lifestyle of politicians on the left as well as on the right.

• Some politicians whose actions are challenged based on perception of wrongdoing own up and take immediate corrective action.

Was it a flaw in the screening process that they took advantage of, or did they understate their earnings? This couldn't just be a perception issue. Did the correct retroactively?

Please explain what Ford had accomplished before being elected mayor.
He was a much better councillor than Chow was although she didn't set a particularly high standard. At least he didn't take up a subsidized housing space that could have been used for someone that needed it - regardless of whether she and Jack paid a little extra (that is a really tired excuse/rationalization BTW Art).

I think both the left and right need to choose one candidate, there's too much vote splitting in Municipal politics.
Yeah, that's not a brilliant idea..

You're telling me there are only two ways to view any particular issue?

No, I'm saying there is too much vote splitting...it hasn't served Toronto very well in the past few Mayors...

The fact that you're considering it "splitting" is nuts.. And actually typical of Ford Nation (or alternatively Adam Vaughan's camp... whatever they're called.).. "You're either with us or against us" sorta mentality.. It's a shame.

Carling, it's okay to say that Olivia Chow is a socialist. That's not the same as calling Ford a Fascist IMHO. (To some degree, us Canadians are all socialists).

Vote splitting IS a fact of life. Nunziata spoiled it for Tory. City counsel has always been a dichotomy of left vs right leaning politicians.

In 40 years of being in Toronto, I still haven't see any transit system development. I was recently in Perth, West Australia, where over 9 years, they've put in a hub and spoke system that extends 40 miles outside of the city. I was in Montpelier, France, where in 5 years they put in an almost "sci-fi" web streetcar system. Even dowdy old London, UK, managed to put in the super modern Jubilee line in 5 years!
Lets get Olivia elected so that we can all be overrun with bicycles.
It's worse than that.

In the last 20 years even Rome, YES ROME, has built more subway lines than Toronto. And this is a city where the archeological crew is as big as the excavation crew. You can now go from The Vatican to Cinecitta in under 40 minutes.

Extremely racist and in very poor, poor, poor taste.
I think it was said with tongue firmly in cheek. (But that might actually be a reason to vote for her! Peking duck is delicious!)

(Disclaimer: ALSO said with tongue planted firmly in cheek, although I love peking duck, I still couldn't bring myself to vote for her... it would be cheaper to buy my own ducks!)

There is typically a left, right and middle in the political spectrum. Splitting is where several candidates from the same spectrum are vying for the vote, thereby diluting that spectrum and allowing one with fewer candidates to squeak through...it's not nuts, it's fact and has nothing to do with "Ford Nation".

Can we do worse than what we got now? We have a swaggering aft slob that is more likely to eat your Peking duck and all of your chow mien.
