Is it time to start an MLB playoff thread?

Update: I just started an MLB playoff thread. I don't want to talk about the Jays anymore, especially with Bautista and EE on the DL.

Rogers and Redmond have about the same ERA as those two. Happ is the poorest in the current line-up with 5.15.

That 5.44 has been inflated by the earlier very poor contributions of Morrow (5.63), Ortiz (6.04), Johnson (6.20), Wang (7.67) and Romero (9.95).
In actual fact, the rotation is fairly respectable now. Not brilliant. But respectable.

So I guess their time off during the All star game didn't really help. How are the rest of the big sluggers doing?

Anthony Gose has never played an inning of defence at catcher, either in the minors or in MLB.

Is it possible you were thinking of Yan Gomes?
I don't know why I thought he had.
I won't look it up because I trust you.

I think Gomes did start as a catcher for us last year - I know he's doing well now...

sorry for my error.... Again - I thought I was on that ball :p

(that-said... he is not built for catching and I actually cringe at my earlier suggestion lol....)

(your welcome :))

Lind is gone (I'm not thrilled about that...)

Sierra will be up here.
Goins will be up here.

Pitching will be the answer for 2014......
(and probably catching - anyone remember when we had 5 catchers???)

don't talk about getting rid of De Rosa - that is blasphemy... he will be back.

That is a real good comparison. EE's first swing of the 2013 season vs Drabek's first inning pitched in the majors in 2013. EE in 2012 had the best season of his career. Kyle Drabek in 2012 has the second Tommy John surgery of his career, most of which has been spent in the minors or on the DL.:frusty:
So you seriously think one poor inning is a useful indication of Drabek's current or future ability? Seriously?

HELP?

A couple of weeks ago I was researching baseball stats and came across a statistical analysis system of offensive stats that factored in things such as pressure and clutch situations, timeliness of hits, game situation, late inning pressure situations, etc....

Frankly, I was trying to evaluate Arencibia's value to the BJ's because not only does he strike out a lot, but often in the most crucial situations -- with men in scoring position when trailing by 1 or 2 runs, third out with men on base, etc. He not only makes outs, but his outs are very unproductive...

I thought I bookmarked the site but apparently I did not and now I can't find it... and not LIPS because that is for pitching, not hitting.

Does anyone know what I am talking about and can help me find the reference?

Thanks.

Perry

Can't help re the stats, but would comment that Arencibia is in a "slump", even by his low standards. IIRC, he is now batting below .200 and is pretty much an automatic out in any situation. This clearly cannot continue. The Jays appear unable to rally or hit w men in scoring position and almost all their offence is coming on the long ball, usually in the early innings before the opposing starter settles in.

Is failure to keep proper records grounds for disbarment?

The current rotation is reasonably good, Happ now included. Here are the current stats.

Redmond - 4.10 ERA and 3-2; Buehrle 4.17 and 11-9; Dickey 4.21 and 13-12; Rogers 4.47 and 5-7; Happ 4.82 and 4-6. Buehrle and Dickey will also both log over 200 innings over the season.

Solid, especially given Happ's recent good starts. But no clear ace.

Given that Thole and Blanco hit below .200 and now JP is .199...Have we set a record for lowest team ba and obp for catchers as a team? Empty the vault for McCann and maybe that Japanese pitcher. Last night, looked like JP closed his eyes on his last swing

Did I hear that the Dodgers have clinched their division (38-8)?
They did clinch today.

Their super hot streak was mid-season when they went 36-8. At one point I think they were 11 games under, same as some team from Canada.

I would consider trading, as good as he's been, Janssen. Santos has been great since returning and he's more of a classic closer, i.e. a power pitcher. I didn't look up parameters such as age (I think SS is younger) and contract details such as salary and years 'til free agency. He would also fetch the biggest bang for the team's buck in what they get back. Lots of teams looking for a "proven(?)" closer. I have a hunch his hot streak may be ending.
Another good outing for SS today. 8 pitches for him to retire the side in the 8th.

I think one of the two will go, whoever will fetch the Jays the most. With Janssen having more of a track record, I think he's the one. They could get a decent starter with CJ as part of a package.
