I think Rasmus is untouchable and is considered a future face of the franchise / all star. Of course, everything depends on what comes back the other way. But AA might want to be a little more conservative from here on in, if he values his career. He has got a pass on his fail for last off season, but I think he is on a short leash.

Agree he would help immensely. Making $12,000,000. this year and probably looking for next year. If the Jays were able to sign McCann who would they keep as back up?
Thole, he's Dickey's catcher and he comes cheap.

Did you catch Drabek against the Twins? Did not record an out and couldn't find the plate. Hope it was nerves but he showed nothing encouraging.
Happier with today's outing?

Yes that was a real nice outing and very encouraging. I was surprised he came out for the second inning as the first was so good.
I was concerned after he plunked the batter but he hung tough and got the side out stranding the runner at third.
It has to be great for him mentally because that first outing had to be worrisome.

Rasmus is in line for a big contract, which is why I thought they may shop him. So assuming you are right and they believe Rasmus to be all star material, do they shop Gose?

My guess is McCann could probably catch Dickey. McCann will catch just over 100 games this year. Is Thole adequate to catch 60 to 65 games a year or if you sign Mccann do you trade JP and Thole and pick up.... say Jose Molina?

Well, let's see. They need 4 or 5 OF's. Bautista, Rasmus, Sierra for sure. Then, do they let Davis go? Do they deal Melke? If they do both, they need a 4th OF. So do they pick up a utility guy and keep Gose at AAA, or bring Gose up? If they keep Melke or Davis, there might be a log jam.

If I'm AA, I lean towards dealing Melke depending on how he plays in spring training. Currently, he has a reduced trade value. Davis might vote with his feet, if he feels he gets more $ and playing time elsewhere.

If Melky heals properly he could be a great DH and play outfield twice a week letting one of the younger kids play. His health will be monitored from now to spring training.

Lind could be dealt for a younger arm seeing as Encarnacion could always play first base and his bat is essential to the team.

Baseball is a 162 game season, yet many of you are reacting to every inning like its crucial. Who cares how Drabek fares in his first appearance back from surgery? Who says Sierra is a lock for next year because he is hot for two weeks. Some of the stuff on here is amazing-Happ, Redmond and Rogers look good enough that they can shop Dickey, etc.
This team needs starting pitching desperately, they don't need to shop a 200 inning guy who is a .500 pitcher on a team with a sub-par record.

I now have mixed emotions on Melky. I thought he disappointed through the tear and then read about the tumor being removed from his spine, which had to negatively effect his play. I guess it all depends on what you are offered for him.

The team cares and a lot of fans care. While he has had two outings since his recall he was rehabbing in the minors and the reports were positive. His initial outing here was scary but 1 outing does not prove much. Second outing was very good. Don't forget Drabek originally arrived here with a lot of fanfare and much was expected from him. I for one really would like to see him succeed.

I agree, but one inning is a useless sample of his potential. Why bother commenting ? You basically refuted my comment and then made essentially the same point.
At what time do we stop the micro-analyzing? I remember EE's first swing this year and it was brutal. Clearly that would show that he would have a brutal year. Maybe????

Lind's statistics against RHP's are top twenty in the AL, IIRC and he is coming on pretty hot right now. Hard to deal that. Melke OTOH is at best a questionable commodity, given age, health and the PED's factor.

Dickey is what he is. He has a decent ERA in the low 4.00 range and a .500 w/l. That's hardly Cy Young and it may be that Rogers Centre isn't his best venue, given his tendency to give up HR's this year. Anyone of the 3 new guys could post that record, or close to it, if they develop well.

That is a real good comparison. EE's first swing of the 2013 season vs Drabek's first inning pitched in the majors in 2013. EE in 2012 had the best season of his career. Kyle Drabek in 2012 has the second Tommy John surgery of his career, most of which has been spent in the minors or on the DL.:frusty:

True. Not saying that it's not.

However, if you had to part with a bat, you'd let Lind go first rather than EE. That's just obvious. If you could get a good young arm out of Lind in a deal, then it's worth it.

if you could get a good young player, pitcher preferably, for Melky and Lind it would be worth it!

Here
My thinking is that if either Gose or Sierra can make the team, then Cabrera becomes the (more or less full time) DH and Lind is expendable.

And Lind plus one of the better bullpen arms (and the BJ's are rich in that department right now) should fetch a pretty good SP... not an Ace, but a good #2 or #3. If so, Dickey could be traded for an Ace unless the BJ's brass think that he can and will do much better next year.

Much to my disappointment, I think Davis will find more playing time and money elsewhere as a free agent, so he is gone... especially if Gose can make the team.

And I also think Goins will stick... unless his bat freezes, which I doubt: his defence is just too good. But, then, Rasmus will have to hit for average and power, as he was expected to do as a 5 tool player.

Also, I am wondering who the BJ's are getting for Bonifacio... or the deal with the Royals could be sweetened to give the BJ's another good SP. I would add Dickey to the package to get Shields. Dickey would do very well in KC, m'thinks.

BTW, Bonifacio is doing well in KC: batting .302, OPS .753 and 14 stolen bases in 32 games and just 116 AB's... I still think he is a gamer and did not get a fair chance here.

Gose had a shyte season in Buffalo but he's rocking up here (I think he gets bitchy when he's not up here.... but he is good). He can catch too - (think he caught a game last year...) though he is a natural center fielder - maybe the Jays should try him out catching a bit (?).
Anthony Gose has never played an inning of defence at catcher, either in the minors or in MLB.

Is it possible you were thinking of Yan Gomes?
