If you have any type of weapon. You should be shot. Why people try to justify criminals or act of violence?
Exactly.

Anyone who yields a knife and tells people to leave the bus isnt right in the head, and its just a matter of time before he seriously hurts or kills someone later in his life.

Good riddance. Life's a bitch if you dont play by the rules

Agree. The punk deserved it.
I have no sympathy for anyone brandishing a knife and threatening to use it. Good riddance.

They would not even know how to move the streetcar, there is a safety switch and it can only travel on the tracks. You guys are thoughtless.
It's not rocket science to operate a street car. Just have to disengage the parking brake and he could have got it moving. If an experienced engineer can forget to apply the parking brake on a giant train like in Quebec, then a street car has to be a lot easier to get going. A squad car is no match for a moving street car no matter how slow it's moving.

I did not.think up the bomb scenario. If someone can build a bomb..you think a dead man switch is hard to do?
You're assuming he's was a mad bomber and intelligent enough to build a bomb and a dead man's switch. If that was the case, then wouldn't he also pick a public place to detonate said bomb? Sorry for the macabre thoughts folks, but when the cops face such a situation they don't have the luxury to think of unlikely scenarios. All they knew was a disturbed man was alone on a street car with a knife. I'm sure they tried to calm the man with no avail, which is why deadly force was used. Again, the SIU investigation and surveillance footage will reveal what likely happened. On the other hand, all the surveillance in the world won't be able to reveal the man's state of mind or even the first responders before and during the incident.

Not really. If the knife-welder was still standing after the first outburst or the second (and was still holding the knife)
How did you know he was a welder by profession?? There's no evidence of that
Exactly.

To whom did he yield the knife?

Worth mentioning from the article:

Duff Campbell, who was on that westbound streetcar on Friday night, said a young man — later identified by friends as Yatim — brandished a knife and ordered everyone off west of Bathurst St., near Trinity Bellwoods Park. Minutes later, police boarded the streetcar and fired several rounds.

Sounds like suicide by cop.

I'm not blaming the officers for following their protocol here, but I am against the protocol of firing several shots into a knife wielding suspect...on the basis of stray bullets harming bystanders is enough reason for the police to improve their strategies in these types of situations imho. It would seem to me, after the suspect was shot once, the police bullets posed a greater risk to the public than the gunned down man with a knife. After the 1st shot, it was reported the man fell...was it really necessary to pump another 8 bullets into him and tazer him after being shot? What are tazers for anyhow, just to threaten and assault already captured/subdued suspects?

Enhanced video. It does seem police shooting was perhaps a little excessive and an overreaction.

Then again, dont wield a knife in public and shit like this wont happen to you

Yeah in the enhanced video I can't see how he was actually a threat from where he was standing when they shot him.

But yeah, when the police yell "drop the knife", not dropping the knife is not a good plan. Maybe an officer will get some sort of retraining over this, but he's dead. He should have dropped the knife.

There's also a possibility he perhaps made a throwing motion at cops with the knife. And if he did that, cops were justified to shoot

Damn, crazy video. I seriously thought these police officers, who make over 100K, were better trained to diffuse a situation without killing somebody. Maybe rubber bullets, gas, taser etc. for somebody who is just yielding a knife. But nobody will know the full situation.
