So now that Ford has his costs covered he I am sure he will now launch his suit against the Star. I would just be wierd if he doesn't.

By what logic do you come to that conclusion?

AFAIK, Ford has never been a plaintiff or initiated litigation. Rather he has been a successful defendant in these cases which are clearly politically motivated.

Maybe he is not a litigious type? Not everyone cries out "I'LL SUE"

You personally suggested Ford would be starting litigation in the Crack thread (about two/three weeks ago).

I don't recall saying that. Are you sure you didn't just see a video of it? Maybe you thought you heard I was referring to MrsCaLoki suing the Star over the Ford video?

Any chance you might find a link to that post so I can eat some crow?

here is the post

Ever hear the story of the old bull and the young bull?

Patience...

If I were the subject of this smear campaign I would let everyone like The Star have plenty of time and rope to make it clear that The Star's motive in it's totality was to cause me to lose my job and ruin my reputation. Not just investigative "reporting" .

He has two years to bring an action.

Time is on his side, legally speaking.

Hardy worth a crow's feather. I said if *I* were the subject. Not what Ford would do. I've allowed certain things to go on to enhance litigation. But I'm a litigious sort.

What would he sue the Star for?
Well given his clear statement that a video doesn't exist this can only mean from his perspective that the Star's story is made from whole cloth--a complete fabrication. Ford hasn't allowed in any of his comments for it to be faked.

Based on this The Star, again from Ford's perspective, is completly lying.

Now that he is cleared of costs on the SCC case he should have the funds to put the Star in its place. Very wierd if he lets them get away with blatant slander that has gone around the world.

what are laws on slander in Ontario? if the star reports that someone told them something. can you sue the star for slander if the source turns about to be a liar?

I think it's extremely appropriate that Ford will be forever known as the Garbage Mayor.

As for the misguided view that ford could sue for libel, a public figure cannot do that. Once they have a public office the system allows for fair criticism.

I'm sure the Left must now be suffering from Ford-fatigue. Sexual harrassment accusations, cheap gossip, failed lawsuits.......none of it seems to stick.

Ford is still mayor, and if that video never surfaces there's always a small chance Ford gets re-elected in 2014.

Lets say John Tory from the right decides not to run and split the votes and Olivia Chow and Bob Rae both decide to run, Rob Ford will have a very good chance winning the second term.

The people from the left know that and thats why all those cheap politics to scare Fords away.

The court would find in favour of the Star, which would trot out three eye witnesses and corroborating testimony from the police. The existence of the video would then become a judicial fact, Ford would be found to be lying in open court -- perhaps opening himself to perjury charges -- and he would very likely wind up paying the Star's legal cost for bringing such a frivolous and vexatious lawsuit.

Crack Nation may yammer on about how they don't believe eye witnesses and the various other reports, but that's just kooky nonsense and a judge will have none of it.

How does that help him?

Bob Rae already said he won't run (the Sun has an opinion column that Harper should appoint him as an Ambassador).

“Ask yourself: over what?” Ford said. “Raising money to help underprivileged kids to play football.”
That pretty much says it all, a big waste of time and money. If this was a case of Ford taking bribes from developers or some other serious act, I'd say by all means go after him. But this was driven by a bunch of babies who can't stand the fact their guy didn't win. Plain and simple!

I don't think Ford will waste time with a slander suit but for now, it's the testimony of drug dealers out to make a buck and hearsay. What's so kooky about Ford not believing so called eye witnesses when no video has been produced?

Never, ever?

Bull shit.

His eminence, the Right Honourable Brian P. Mulroney sued the RCMP.

'Fair criticism' is exactly that, but not libel per se.
