Good call on the id, but not the single word name,

One buddy who had the biggest record collection in the gang had one of these, handled a stack of 8 45's, which he recently told me he got rid of, when his childhood house was demolished for condos back in 2005. Couldn't handle the memories.

I remember those centre pieces. We had one when I was growing up but don't know what happened to it. Still have some of the single ones and a stack of 45's as well. Also have a box full of 33 rpm albums and my record player still works. Love listening to them once in awhile, scratches and all. Brings back lots of memories.

A rocket radio!

Totally forgot about those.
Mid to late 50s. Two wires come of the base. One is the ear plug, the other the antenna, which had to be clipped to something metallic I think to double function as a ground wire.

Remember seeing one at a friend's place. Vaguely remember it only got one station, the one within 10 miles. Can't remember any tuning dial, but maybe the rocket "nose" could be twisted to find another station if you were in New York or Chicago ~ or even Toronto ~ any city large enough to support several AM stations.

I remember learning code like that in University ( in High school we used the 'lottery' cards to program) - Learned BASIC - about the only programming I knew really well as had to learn everything from scratch.

Became more of an application user after that - ie editing excel, for example.

Wow - you are good. The crystal radio was unique in that it didn't need batteries. In the era of tube radios - quite unique.
