a federal election is 2 years away and the Harper clique is already getting desperate

OTTAWA — A “classroom” at Degrassi High served as the setting for Justin Trudeau’s first national advertisements, which aired Wednesday just as the Conservatives were planning another attack on the new Liberal leader — this time using taxpayer dollars.

Documents obtained by the Liberal Party show the Tories are planning to send thousands of taxpayer-funded mail-outs to households across the country reiterating their message that Trudeau is “in over his head.”

The mail-outs, called 10-per-centers, are usually supposed to be used by MPs to update their constituents on what is happening in the House of Commons. According to the documents, the anti-Trudeau flyers will be mailed out June 1.

The flyers show pictures of a moustachioed Trudeau with a coat thrown over one shoulder against a backdrop of quotes, cursive script and sparkles similar to those featured in the Conservative attack ads released last week.

Another section questions Trudeau’s judgment on such issues as Quebec separatism, tax credits for families and the economy.

According to an accompanying document, the flyers were presented to the Conservative caucus on April 17, and the aim is to “blanket” Conservative ridings across the country with the ads.

The cost to taxpayers of mailing the flyers to 40,000 households in one riding is estimated at $175, or $29,050 if all 166 Conservative MPs send the 10-per-centers.

That would be over and above the cost of printing the flyers, which would also be covered by taxpayers.

While the actual dollar amount may seem small, Liberal MP Stephane Dion said such mail-outs are supposed to be used to update Canadians about the work being done on their behalf in Parliament.

Using parliamentary resources for partisan purposes is not only an abuse of taxpayer dollars, he said, but politicizes Parliament as an institution.

“It’s so disrespectful of taxpayers’ money,” he said.

They wouldn't be so proactive if they didn't fear him.

I think that is the past tense. Canadians have never liked Harper. If you look at the complexion of Canadian politics, 4 out of 5 parties are left leaning, add them up any you get 61.4% of the vote. That ranges from moderate left liberals abd Bloc, to far left greens. So deposing Harper is more to do with who can unite the left.

Nothing desperate about it because it works. Canadians liked Harper enough to give him a solid majority in the last election. nottyboi, if you unite the left many small l Liberals will support the CPC............and we'd see a very similar trend to what is in the US.

Here's the rub, some Conservatives reps have told Harper they won't participate in the mail campaign as they are getting flack from their ridings about them. Over the last months, probably 9 months, the Conservative numbers have been declining to troublesome levels, now just above 31%, the lowest level since mid 2009, with in range of losing the election let alone the majority.

Small l. Liberals have already defected as the party moved to the center...they lost more then they gained. Small liberals are very unlikely to support the consider who are more extreme then the pcs ever were

the cons get a majority because of vote splitting.

Vote splitting - you're assuming that the average NDP'er and Liberal think the same..........clearly not the case. True vote splitting was when the Reform/Alliance and the PC Party were separate entities.

So you have no qualms with this gross abuse of taxpayer dollars because it's to benefit your guy?

Their tactics are somewhat reminiscent of those of a tinpot dictatorship.
They do not. But I suppose on an escort review board, one should not expect reasonable discussions. Here's an idea - why not go live in a country run by a true tinpot dictator, for a year or so, then compare that to the democratically re-elected government run by our PM. You may learn something about dictatorships. Or, you may not.

Regime's ads campaigns are miserable failures HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Tory attack ads may be backfiring in favour of Trudeau’s Liberals as support rises, new poll shows

OTTAWA — New Conservative advertisements attacking Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau aren’t being well received by Canadians and appear to have had little to no effect in swaying voters to the Tories, according to a new poll.

The Ipsos Reid survey conducted exclusively for Postmedia News and Global Television found that despite the attack ads, Trudeau and the Liberals continue to lead all federal parties with support from 35 per cent of Canadians, up three points from the beginning of April.

That gain was largely at the expense of the NDP, which is down two points to 25 per cent, while the Conservatives appear to have reaped little benefit from the ads as they are up only one point to 32 per cent.

I

I guess you forget when the Conservative under Mulroney were eviscerated down to two seats. The Liberals had many more than that. What made you think the Liberal were gone?
